He changed the sprocket after 2200 miles. The bike's been thrashed. Soundly. Look elsewhere.

this would be your first bike right? everything aside with it being to much for a first bike. id say go for it.

even if it sucks its still cheap enough to learn on, if you drop it wont be the end of the world. also your friend seems nice enough(from the little i know), if you have problems he might be willing to work on the bike for you to keep it in good order. your not going to be pushing the edges of its performance abilitys so i wouldnt worry as long as it runs and is safe, who cares if its already been beaten up. you can worry less about doing harm to it if you know its already seen alot worse.

but thats my opinion im sure alot of people would dissagree with me.

this will be my second bike. i had a kawaski ninja befor this one.. the guy said he did play with it and he pull wheelys but not all the time. .. but he did alot of work he said to keep it nice.. i mean the bike starts right up. it just seems like the carbs are a lil gumed up.. it seems like it need a Full Tune Up.. thats about it.. i mean i would love to ride the bike and have fun with it. the one thing that worrys me is that he said that water got into the gauge cluster and got it wet .. then one day it didnt turn on.. so now it reads 900 miles but he says it has about 2200 mile on it.. so that bothers me a lil.. also someone broke into his shed and tried stealing parts off of it.. they didnt get much and the parts they took were like break levers and lil stupid "poo poo" like that.. he replace all the "poo poo" they took.. so i guess thats fine.. but like i said its the fact that it needs the tune up that bothers me.. i just wish it ran mint so i didnt have to worry.. but well see what happens...

i dont usually beleive anything anyone says like that. the reason the gauges dont read proper could be he tried to roll them back and screwd it up, or they were damaged and he had to replace them. the same goes with the supposed stolen parts. could have been ruined in a drop and hes using the other story to play them off. i mean really who breaks into somes garage and sees a nice motorcycle and the only thing they can think of stealing is a few levers, they just so happen to be one of the things that break easy in a wreck.

but again if you know the guy well enough, the bike will get you around and could be brought up to shape over time/money later on. you need to decide first how well you trust the guy, second how much you Really want the bike, thrid willing to accept it might turn out to be a junker.

you never mentiond if it has a clear title or slavage/rebuild? you could even get the VIN and do a look up on it to see it has any known past to it.

if you really want an r6 thats your best bet for the money. if you really just want a good running bike for that price look else where.

thankyou verry much .. you have opened my eyes a lil wider... you bring up some verry good points.. he could just be lying about everything... i dont know the guy well , its a friend of a friend.. i was refered to him .. i know the bike is expensive i have been looking on e bay and places like that.. they run about 5 to 6 grand.. so i mean like i said maby he just wants to get rid of it. i dono i gotta look at the bike some more and bring it to a place to get looked at.. have them tare the bike apart and make sure everything is good.. if not then i dont want it .. does anyone know anyone selling an R6 for reasions that the bike was junk other then wrecking it.. b/c i herd that most R6 even though beeten on are still amazing bikes and they are made to be beeten on.. thats what alot of riders say.. so i dono but anyway

thankyou for your reply

Too many bits and pieces that don't add up. I think that I would pass on this and keep looking. My two cents worth.
I would be the old, slow guy. Just let me know where you are going and I'll try to get there before you leave.

Made to beat on, huh? Let's think about this.... a hammer is made to beat on, no doubt about that. Ever see a hammer that's been beaten on daily for 2-3 years? It is hardly unmarked.

An R-6 is capable of performing manuvers that can be considered 'beating on'... but it is going to require constant and extensive maintance to stay running and rolling. And it will be marked up, just like a hammer. The bike can and will wheelie, burn out, do stoppies... all that sort of stuff. But it will definately show on the bike. Head and wheel bearings will last a fraction of the time they should, forks and shocks will wear and bend, chains and sprockets will shred, and the engine will be a rat before it's time. Priced sport tires lately? Brake pads and rotors? Things get expensive in a hurry......

The bike will take the abuse...... but will require more parts, more often just to stay rideable. Like a dirtbike. They lead a hard, hard life... and require alot of upkeep or they become trash bikes very quickly.

If your willing to invest the time and money into upkeep, beat the snot out of your bike. If you don't, it will become junk in short order.

Something to keep in mind when thinking of beating on your bike, or buying one that some one has pre-beat for you. He might be selling it to avoid the time and money to keep the bike on the road..... do you want to buy someone else's aftermath?
No Witnesses.... :shifty:

yeah you are totally right.. i am worried.. but its in my price range ya know. i dont want a bike i will have to keep rebuilding to keep it reliable.. i want a bike that was babyed. i want a bike that was treated good and kept up.. i guess this might not be the bike for me.. i will take all your advice into concideration and get the bike thurley checked out.. i will do what i gotta do to find out if it was beeten on.. if i sence any kind of abuse i will turn around and walk away.. thats all i can do i guess.. noone is forcing me to buy the bike, execpt myself.. i want a bike soo bad and its making me nuts... i am allways in a rush trying to get things in a hurry and thats a bad thing to do.. but i gotta do it right and keep looking for the best deal wit the bike that was not beet on.. so lets see how it goes..
anyway thankyou for your time and all your replys..
