The clients whose computers were screwed over the worst only had AIM installed, too. You get way more than you bargain for when you install that POS program.

wrong. I spent 2 hours uninstalling all the stupid software that aohell installed on wifes computer from installing aim.
guess you need to teach your wife how to properly install AIM. Dont install the entire AIM suite, just the text program.
I've done it on several machines with no problems, or additional software. My entire company uses it, while i know there are security issues, i think you guys are a little paranoid.

even the text program installs spyware/adaware that is unwanted and unneeded. IF you dont know what your doing it will instal those without your knowing. those are why it took me 2 hours to unininstal. well that and removing the crappy ads lol. In the end I finally got her to do what I did and install trillion to run aim(which I dont use still), MSN, ICQ, and Yahoo :D. course with linux I use GAIM but I havent messed with my linux box in a while.

Unfortunately text is horrible at translating sarcasm, much to my detriment as I (like everyone else my age) am incapable of communicating without it.
