Outback Ride - with Pix

#1 Unread post by CentralOzzy »

Just the other day I went for a Ride in perfect conditions with a couple of mates of mine. One mate Eric, had his sister & boyfriend which were to be our clients for this ride, the other mate Brad tagged along just for fun.

Naturally we went into the MacDonnell Ranges & I can tell you, even after 13 years of doing this I'll never get tired of riding through the Ranges & showing them off to people. This tour was more easy going than some so I also took another mate of mine Brad with me.

The visitor Chris had never been on a Harley before & although he looked a bit stiff to start off with, judging by the Sh_t Eating grin on his face, I'd say he loved it! - In fact he said he'd like to buy one! b Nothing like a V-Twins Torque to get the blood flowing thru the veins.

All went well to our first stop Honeymoon Gap, so we took '5' to have a chat to get to know our visitors from Adelaide a bit better.

Then it was off West to our main destination, Standley Chasm, a bit of a tourist haunt at times but as we were here late in the day there was relatively few people around....Perfect!

We let my Mate Eric take his sister & boyfriend up to the chasm, while Brad & I decided to walk up to a lookout we know about.

It didn't take long to get to the top of a ridge were we could look out in all directions thru the Ranges, awesome!

After a while we decided to 'go a different' way back to the bikes, so instead of walking along the track we headed down a steep slippery slope from HELL! (As it turned out)
Now some of our hills have these large clumpy plants called Spinifex which funny enough have spinney needles protruding in all directions. Walking thru this stuff is uncomfortable to say the least & as we were negotiating the steep cliff....Brad slips & takes a fall right into a few clumps....OUCH! Imagine diving into a swimming pool of needles naked & you'll get the idea. We eventually made it to the bottom of the valley & I took this picture of Brad in 'Prickly' Pain.

Time to make tracks back to the bikes as we didn't want our friends to beat us back there. No probs, we made it just as we caught site of our friends walking in our direction. Perfect timing, now let's get back to ridin' in Style!

Next stop was Simpsons Gap, a nice quiet little place which is great to ride into because it actually has some nice 'Rare' corners to negotiate.

Once we arrived we all went for a leisurely walk down to the waterhole along the dry river bed looking for rock wallabies, after checking out the waterhole, we returned to the bikes just in time to see the wicked sunset on the orange coloured rocks.

On the way back to base we rode up to the local town Lookout for the final sunset, then returned home before dark. Chris Thanked me about 100 times & we bid them all farewell. It sure is great fun making people happy, makes me feel good as well!
