Hello all.

Glad to be a part of the community!

The missus decided last spring she wanted to cross "ride a motorcycle" off her life list, so she signed us up for the MSF course at the local community college. I thought fine, it'll be great to get back on a bike for a couple of days, but I had no illusions about riding again.

I rode a little bit in college, courtesy of a roommate who broke his shifting leg on his 100cc Suzuki. Lot of fun cruising the backroads of southern Illinois, even on that tiny bike. I still had an L license, although I hadn't ridden in 25 years. I had vivid motorcycle dreams occasionally that would leave me in a funk for days. But hey, I had a kid, a mortgage and a wife dead-set against two-wheelers. Wasn't going to happen, right?

Well, on the second day of the course, she cruised up to me on that Honda Rebel and said, "If you want a motorcycle, we'll have to get two, 'coz I want one of my own."

She's a wonder, and a mystery to me.

So I said something like, "Well, if you reeaaaally want to …"

Two weeks later, we were the proud owners of a brand-new Suzuki S40 (hers) and an S50 (his), with matching red paint jobs and helmets. We rationalized it thus:
1. We were both due for a midlife crisis.
2. This was something we could do together.
3. We'd save on gas.

We've been cruising the back roads of northern Illinois for about a month now, dreading the approaching winter and trying to figure out where we're going to store these motorcycles when the snow flies. We hadn't really thought that part through.

Last Sunday was a glorious fall day. We were out in the country on a smooth road between fields of soybeans and corn. Not a car in sight. I glance at the rear-view, and there's my wife, giving me the thumbs-up.

Life throws all kinds of curve balls, I thought. We hit this one out of the park. [/img]

:welcome: the community!!

Your story sounds like a blossoming motorcycle romance story! :D Thanks for sharing it. I can only imagine how big both your smiles are out there riding, next you'll start singing in your helmet and naming your ride! (both which many many of us do). haha

You'll find the Total Motorcycle Maintenance Guide: http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/maintenance.htm quite helpful if your in the winter parts of the country and need to store your bike properly for the winter so it starts up in the spring time. :D

Enjoy the site, the community! Have fun and be safe out there. :moose:

I, too, am married to a woman who was the driving force behind us getting into motorcycles a couple of years ago. It was a great surprise to me, as the same woman for years always growled "don't even think about it!" every time I cast covetous eyes on a Harley.

That is a great story!
My fiance is interested in bikes now since I got mine, but I don't know how long it will take for him to get one. I took the MSF this past weekend and haven't shut up about it yet. My sweetie listens to my stories and is helping me turn wrenches on my bike, so maybe he's not too far behind.
I've got a bike after wanting one for 14 years, so even if this is just "my thing" I'll be a happy girl, but I really love the idea of sharing my passion with the love of my life.
I hope you and your lovely bride are having the time of your mid-lives!

Welcome aboard! Similar story here - except that at first my husband was dead set against the idea. He went along, however, and now loves biking as much as (if not more than) I do. Enjoy yourselves!!

Cheers,
Loonette

That's an awesome story! I wasn't crazy about my husband getting a motorcycle at first either, now I have my own and want to go riding more than he does!

Social - hey neighbor! Better hurry, it's getting late in the year.

We're going to try a group ride this weekend with a couple of friends - I'll post a pic on Monday.
