93 FZR600 Idle Problems

#1 Unread post by Ryntis »

When I bought this bike it had been sitting for 5 years.. I changed the oil, new battery, dumped the fuel and put new fuel in, started right up.. not perfectly, but it turned over and idled after some babying..

now, it had power problems and idle problems.. I replaced the fuel filter, plugs, and pulled the carbs apart and soaked the jets, cleaned everything, and got them back in there.. bought a set of sync gauges (needle) and synced them.. it seems to have ok power, but not what it should.

when cold if i set idle at 2k, it will hang at 2k for a second then drop down to like 600.. sometimes stall.. if i blip the throttle a bit it'll go up to 3k, hang at 3k for a second, drop to 2k, hang at 2k for a second, then drop down to <1000 again..

if i raise the idle to 3k.. it'll drop down to 2k instead of <1000 so this has been my temporary fix.. ghetto as it may be.

Im wondering what I could have missed.. any ideas?

5 years too long for carbs to sit? should i buy new jets? could it be a leak in the intake/exhaust? and if so how can i find it without just pulling the heads and replacing the gaskets?

Instead of JUST cleaning the jets, the whole bank of carbs need to be soaked. Also check your intake boots for cracking which will cause an intake leak.

This model was bad about soft intake valves. How many miles are on it? If over 10k, it would be a good idea to check the clearances.
CHECK YOUR TIRE PRESSURE REGULARLY!!!
