What are the pros and cons when it comes to Ninja 250 and 500 ( for a new, firstime rider)??

What is the 0-60 mph on those bikes?

The 0-60 is fast enough.

The EX500 has more hauling power and can reach highway speeds faster.

The EX250 is more economical and caps out around the 100mph range but it struggles.

The 250 is more than capable, though. There was a video on here not too long ago of a high speed chase with a guy on a 250.

The Ninja 500-R is a great all-around bike. Never rode a 250 before, but I understand it to be the speed-king of the 250 class

The 500-R won't have you looking for a bigger bike too soon.

Oh yeah, the 250 does just fine until you get to the highway speeds. Then it starts to struggle. 500 is much better for commuting and you won't get bored with it for a long time.

Let's say I get a Ninja 250 and it lasts me several years and I gain a lot of experience and love riding it, but finally I start getting that urge to upgrade. Are there good mod options for the 250 to increase performance nicely (not expecting it to run like a 500, but "better" than 250 stock) that in the end would cost less than the $2,000 price difference in the bikes? Or would you say that the 500 truly is worth the price over the 250?

i don't think the 500 is gonna be worth it if you just intend to use it as a learner bike.

save the $2000 price diff for making a down payment on the bike you really want later on.

but if you can find a cheap used 500... then go for it.

don't buy a new one if you'll be upgrading later.

and don't spend big money on mods on the 250. it's not worth it unless you plan to keep the bike for a long time.

How is the 500 better for commuting? I figured that the 250 gets better gas mileage...and would be better for everyday riding to work....or so on.

Agreed. From the little research I've done, performance mods for the 250 are not economical. I've only planned on a few aesthetic mods (flush mount signals, rim stripes and maybe a windshield) that will cost me about ~$100 total. The 250 is a great commuter and learner bike.
