My wife has her own gear. She'll be getting her own bike soon.

I would say a girlfriend would have her own too if it was a serious relationship. First date a bit different, you would have to supply a spare gear and hope it fits.
A dog had his chain reduced one link at a time, every few days, until his chain was so short he could barely move. He never resisted because he was conditioned to the loss of his freedom slowly, over time. Are we in this country becoming like the dog?

I tell her to wear jeans and if she has a leather jacket .. otherwise I give her mine, and I have a spare helmet for passengers as well. Certainly makes a great start to a first date. :) :) :)

It depends on your states laws. In California you have to wear a helmet so that would not work here.

I wouldn't take a girl on my bike unless she has her own gear or any spare gear I have fits her right. If she was hurt for any reason I would feel horrible knowing she might not have been injured as badly if she was wearing proper gear.

I'm of the opinion that the passenger should be better protected then the rider. Of course, I own two full sets of gear as a memento of the ex GF, so putting someone new on the back isn't that difficult.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I have a spare helmet that I give the passenger. I'll usually keep my helmet and give her my jacket...

My only deal about giving the passenger my helmet if she doesnt have one is visability in the wind....I dont usually carry a pair of sunglasses so its probably safer for all involved if I have good vision behind the windshield.

I have a spare helmet, woman's jacket, and gloves for them to wear...but i gotta make sure the girl fits my ex's figure somewhat so it fits. I figure they better wear the gear so I don't have to waste my night licking and cleaning wounds.

Any passenger on my bike, Female or Male, has the right to choose whether or not to wear a helmet - depending on whether or not it's required by law. I don't want to be stopped because my passenger is breaking the law!

Plenty of Italian girls ride on the back of sportbikes in Minis, Spike heels and thin blouses. They don't have an overbearing culture of safety. Thank goodness. Usually, though, if the girl is the primary operator of the bike, she'll have gear on (Usually more so than the males.)

In Pennsylvania the law is the passenger must have a full motorcycle licence class M to ride on the back as a passenger without a helmet, and women passengers are more comfortable with a sissy bar on the back, it covers up their big butt.
