Ninja 250 valves making noise

#1 Unread post by deedee1 »

Hi all I have a question and I am hoping you can help me.

We purchased my bike a month ago and the po had the service done on it. Valves oil etc etc. We have put maybe 500 miles on it and no the valves are ticking real loud. It has never done that before.

Could you tell me if this is normal or if maybe the valves need adjusting again.

It hasn't been over heated, the oil level is fine and it has been mainly used for me to learn to ride so not much hard riding done on her since we have gotten her. The service people said she was in great shape and there was nothing wrong with her. (they had no financial gain to tell me that as it was a private sale the guy just wanted to have the service done as hubby was going to be riding her 150 miles to get her home)

Thanks in advance have a great one and ride safe

I've never redone valves on a bike before so take this with a grain of salt...

when tuning for a car, you'd take off the valve covers tighten the valves and start to loosen off and as you hear it clicking (do this while engine is on) you'll stop and than turn back 1/4-1/2 turn and do the same for all of the valves.

Heya silent. THere is what is called a camshaft tensioner on the right side of the bike. Just above the round thing (nice new technical term lol) It isnt very big its held on by two bolts and is kind of rounded at the top.

Well it was ticking really loud though it was the valves. But waht it was is the camshaft tensioner. It gets dirty inside there there are two rings a rod and a ball bearing thing in there. one of the springs fits inside the rod and inside there it was all gummed up. hubby took it out and cleaned all the parts then put it back in. And no more noise.

Go to www,ninja250.com and do a search on the camshaft tensioner. There is a lot of info on it. I am jsut glad it was a quick fix and not somehting major.

Good luck.
