drag bikes...

I've always found drag racing to be the most boring form of racing. Even with the most interactive bike you can think of, it is still little more than throttle turning contest.....

My machinery fetish does find some gratification in some of dem bikes though.... the engine building contestants do build some pretty examples of thier craft....

i used to only like the Very fast style racing nascar and indy cars. after playing the Forza game(racing sim). ive found the GT style racing to be the best even if its probally the slowest form of track racing. but its amazing the work the driver has to do to keep the car on the road at those speeds. constantly trying to get the car to reach top speed then slamming the brakes to take a corckscrew turn. same with rally racing. they seem to be the most driver intense and rely less on the best vehicle and more on driver ability.

Yeah. Back to the heart of racing.

Granted, you don't want to see a bunch of guys try to beat each other by racing Vespas (well, ok, so maybe once in a while?) but still, the power of the machine shouldn't be the primary focus. It should be a dash of salt, or a lightly caked layer of MSG, that gives flavour to the main course- The ability of the racer!

ya i dont like the nrx and high powered cars like that with weaker handling they rely on the power. were the impreza/civic crowds can still manuever well enough to creat some exciting passes.

also racing with a more open class is good i think rather than everyone having the same car/setup.

I thought this as well until I witnessed a very stock looking ZRX1200 lay waste to a couple of Busas at the local friday night drags. Down at the stock level there is lots to be done by the rider and it's obvious that there is some serious talent required to do it well. I was considering giving it a go on my completely-wrong-for-drag-racing VTR just for kicks. I just can't bring myself to abuse the clutch enough to do it well.....yeah, thats my excuse for going so slow.....

Cool machines is cool machines.... and drag racing has its share of those, so I've been to a few. And your right, it takes specialized skills to do properly, but nothing like what's required of a road racer or MX'er.

I was at Budwieser Park about 7 years ago for the all bike drags..... very poor crowd turnout, but you could walk down and stand between the burnout boxes and watch if you wanted. And I did want, so I did. It was bracket racing and they had a top fueler H.D. lined up against a stock 70's Commando 750 in very nice shape. The Harley was so bloody loud the greybeard on the Norton couldn't hear his own engine. When he got his light, he dumped the clutch and flipped his Norton on the starting line..... 10 feet away from me. It hurt me to see that nice old bike doing the funky chicken on the ground, the rider was near tears.... The H.D. took off a few seconds later like nothing happened, but I overheard the rider making fun of the dead Norton in the pits afterwards. No Class Azz...... he was actually offended that he had to line up against that Norton, and that's why he was screaming his engine... to distract the greybeard....

Not really relevant to the post, but an interesting story anyway....
