My new(first) tattoo!

So I finally bit the bullet and got a tattoo. I've wanted one for years but never really had a reason, or found something I know I'd want to keep forever. After slicing my wrist wide open 18months ago i debated getting one but never did. However, shortly after this last injury I was looking at some of my favorite artist's work(Salvador Dali) I came upon an image that instantly connected with me. After sitting on the idea awhile, and talking to numerous artists i found the guy I wanted to do the job.

The meaning of the piece basically has to do with the struggle and setbacks I've had to fight against and somehow always end up getting away and becoming even more determined to keep going.

Dali is a surrealist..the tatto is kinda weird hehe

That's pretty damn cool. your inkslinger did a beautiful job. Make sure you post up a pic when it's all healed.

looks really good and in that part of your back...i am sure it was a little painful too....
way to go and congrads.

If i didnt need to blend into society, i'd be inked up heavily....but there is still time and maybe in time, i wont worry so much on what society thinks!

I totally understand the "blening into society" thing. I'm working on becoming an architect so I am not 'allowed' to place anything permanant that can be seen in work apparel. I used to have a few piercings but have removed all one industrial in my left ear that I'll probably eventually have to take out depending on what firm I end up going to.

But that tatt wont be seen by anyone unless I'm partially naked

Yeah the artist did an amaing job. I'm sure if I catch the bug I'll go back to him again. I ended up tipping him around 30% on the cost of the tattoo itself..he was pretty surprised about that one.

It was more painful than I thought, but after about 10min I got used to it for the most part. It feels exactly like a sunburn right now but its getting better and start to "scab" up a bit. I cant wait to see what it'll look like healed.

The piece itself I love because I havent seen anything like it except one image on google that wasn nearly as good.

Thanks for the compliments tho...I am very proud of my new ink!

Very nice Kellan. I'm rather accustom to back tats, they're impressive. You keeping any tatto-goo on that sucker?

Edit: I don't have any (yet), DH has the spread.

Nice work there! My husband has an appointment for his first tattoo in a couple of weeks - I'm still in shock at this, as I didn't imagine he would ever get one. I cannot wait to watch him get stuck.

Make sure you post this in the running tattoo thread, so that we can keep that going. Again, very nice!

/agree on the goo. till you get some though, keep it slathered with some decent antibacterial ointment. ...... nothing feels quite like a very fresh....dried out tattoo. /shudder.

This credit union does not allow visible tattoos, which is weird, because it's a pretty young group includnig BOD and execs. The last two banks I worked at had no policy, and they were the stodgey old bankers' kind of banks. Formed in the early 1800's...

Anyway, I just have to make sure my sleeves are long enough, and I wear boots if I wear a skirt. We are generally "casual" with polo/tee type shirts with our logo, and it's hard to tell in the catelog if the short sleeves will cover, so I always buy 3/4 or long sleeves shorts. On the "banker days" days when we have to get dressed up, I wear a suit with pants.

There are occasions that I have worn a light colored shirt where folks have said they can see my ink on my back, or the very top of my "wings" are showing on my back. As for my lower back and tummy, they can't show anyway. The "test" for a shirt is to put yur hand up like it's a hold up. If you see skin, you can't wear it. (Tempting fate to do "hold up arms" in a bank, well credit union, if you ask me).

When we have parties or community events off site, it's ok if they show. People are always surprised when they see mine....

Oh - if you pierce your nose, you have to wear a bandaid on it. I think that's silly! The piercings look cute - the bandaid looks gross! (I don't have my nose pierced...)
