HELP . . . Installing PLEXIFAIRING 3 OR 2

So far so good with the installation of Plex. 3, but the instructions appear
to be messed up at step #5 where it says to install the Pivot Mounts
snuggly . . . then at stop #9 it says "IMPORTANT" to place Tape under
Pivot Mount..well the Pivot Mounts were put on way back at step #5,
so I guess I have to take off my Pivot Mounts and put the tape under
them (between to bar and the Pivot Mount) and start over with installing
the Pivot Mounts ? ?

Is the tape necessary to be between the Pivot Mounts and the bar?

It's probably to increase friction, and at the same time prevent it from sliding around.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

i have 3 plexifairing 3 shields now and have had about 6 others over the years.i have never used the tape.
