popups

#1 Unread post by ninja79 »

This is getting really annoying. For the past couple months TMW has been popups that somehow evade the popup blocker. This is really annoying and ultimately counter-productive. I classify popups in the same category as spam. Why has TMW stooped so low?

And how do you suggest TMW should provide us with this free resource?

This thread doesn't really have a lot to with motorcycles does it?

That being said, considering the bandwidth usage, I'm surprised the Mike can keep the site going even with the ads he has. I hear the poor bugger lives on Ramen and whatever rodents he can catch in the back alley.

3 Pop-ups a day isn't that bad... is it?
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Stands with Sev. Only times I've had a problem with popups here has been because I have accidently reset the date on my computer and confused the server.

My first post of the day I let the popups open and then close them straight down. Mike gets paid, I get TMW to be here when I want it or need it and the advertisers get to believe I actually care about what they are advertising - everyone wins.

By the way. A couple of months ago an unscrupulous company offered Mike a silly amount of money for our email addresses, Mike refused because he isnt interested in making a 'quick buck' out of us.

Something like $1.25 per registered unique e-mail address. Times 20 thousand peoples if memory serves.

Yeah, there was a post about this somewhere in the Suggestions or Soap Box forums, because someone was getting annoyed... Those ads might be annoying, but definitely necessary. I know most people wouldn't pay to be on a forum, so we'd get a loss of information and help. Anyway, just deal with em, you'll live, I promise!

Gee whiz, what the guys' said - this is a great website and it's huge - the cost of and the time to keep it running is also huge. I don't see how Mike does it - and if it takes some advertising ... Mike really ought to be making a few bucks for all his efforts - I hope he does, he deserves to.

First thing I did when I signed on was to kick in a few bucks to be a site supporter. You might consider doing the same.

That's good. Because if that got out that would be the last time I would be on this site. One of the car forums I used to frequent did that and people found out.... I don't think that forum is up anymore. All the regulars just made another forum and migrated.

I'll move this to the "Suggestion Box". Even though there's really no good suggestion - just a complaint. But since it isn't "Motorcycle Talk"...

And as has been said, the topic has been done to death. A simple search on the site for "popups" would reveal that.
