Don't forget the radiation from cell phones, he'll end up getting cancer and dying before he gets old... But of course he can't really talk on it without taking off the helmet, so who knows...

Riding conditions in different places???
i live in socal, but am moving back to colorado; i don't ride now, but want to start; honestly I FEAR FOR MY LIFE JUST DRIVING A CAR around here; i personally don't think i'd be willing to ride a bike here, at least in LA and OC; you'll probably become a fantastic rider fast 
people drive around here like maniacs; it's unreal; the busy-busy rush, cars swerving, people flooring it to get to work, it's pretty bad
but it's up to you, know the risks; i rock climb, that's definitely risky
