IIRC, they didn't talk to those sportbike riders and get their side of the coin.

BTW, it doesn't matter if that van was going well over the speed limit. The video would have been the same. They would have been consistently passed over double yellows and around blind corners no matter what speed they were going at. They were probably going around the speed limit.

and if you're going by the PSL... you should have expected to be passed.


although... i admit, passing high speed on blind corners is not a good idea even if you knew that corner very well.

The only reason you're attempting to explain away this video is because you're one of them. You're one of the guys going way too fast on public roads, risking your life and others' lives, and you feel the need to defend your actions.

Indeed! The first thing the guy says is 'most drive slowly and carefully'.

What I found interesting was that these bikers were going 100+mph and creating 300 accidents in a year, but only 13 of those were fatalities.

My solution? Set up automatic speed cameras and impound their bikes. That'll stop it quick.

What difference does it make whether the "problems" are because of experienced or inexperienced riders?

There's obviously a problem. Riders are flocking to this area to ride in twisty roads at speeds of over double the posted speed limit. They are killing themselves and others at an alarming rate. They are causing huge numbers of accidents and terrorizing a large number of residents, tourists, and drivers.

When a motorcycle plows head-on into a van carrying a family of four and the biker dies instantly, the biker is not the only casualty.

This is a big problem, and law enforcement can't do a damn thing about it. Explaining it away as a "biased" report or that it's because of "inexperienced riders" doesn't accomplish anything. There's a problem, and it needs a solution.

I don't see it as biased. It is a good report. Those bikers should not be traveling at those speeds on a public road. If they wanna race take it to a track. Basic MSF Course stuff. Take into consideration the way you ride and the consequences to you and others. Obviously these riders aren't and people have been hurt and killed riding those roads the way they are.

It does say it is a small percentage and that yes it is sport bike riders that they focus on. But thats because its the sportbikers that take that road that way no way a cruiser could do it at those speeds.

Unfortuantely alot of people see bikers as bad anyway because of all the movies portraying us that way.

What is the solution? Maybe make it mandatory to take a MSF course and when a violation like that has occured make sure those bikers are dealt with the way they should be. Such as tickets for slower over speed limit and even some jail time for the speeds they were going.

Riders like that make it hard for the rest of us to ride and be seen as normal people who just love the feel of a good ride. Most of them I am sure are normal people who love it as well but they do it in excess and need to slow down and not risk their lives and the lives of others around them.

Other than speed cameras, I wonder why these officers are not catching them along the road and setting up another patrol car at the end of the twisty highway to ticket them as they leave. Set up a guy with a camera at one end and a big flatbed truck with a cop at the other end.

i bet this problem isn't such a big deal. the news guys probably just couldn't find good story to tell so they just dug up this beaten to death topic.
