Trouble shooting a 94 yamaha Seca 2 HELP PLEASE!!!!

#1 Unread post by skylinett2002 »

okay. Well for starters the bike won't get started. The lights turn on and everything and it cranks but won't start. My friend cleaned out the carbs and i cleaned the spark plugs with a soft brass brush and we put starter fluid on the carburetors. When we cranked it, it feels like it wants to start but then just dies. It already back fired on us three times yesterday and once today. Then we checked the spark plugs to see if they would give a spark and no spark. We pulled the choke so it can put more gas and still nothing. I'm going to replace the spark plugs tomarrow and if that doesn't work, well i'm stuck. Could the spark plugs be the problem or the carburetor? If anybody can give me some knowledge, please help.

Ok dude if there is no spark it wont run. Does not matter how much gas is in there. First make sure all your kill switches are in run. Check all you connections on the harness then get a multimeter. Check the ohms value on the stator then the pick up pulsor. You will need a book on the bike to get the proper readings and what wires to test. If that all test out good check and make sure you kill switches are properly working. Actually check to see if all four plugs dont spark. If only two dont spark a coil is bad, but if all dont spark your coils are probably good. Check them anyways. If everything checks out good replace your CDI. Reason thats last is because that is the only thing that you can not test. Hope this helps.

Okay, i replaced the spark plugs and now it's running, but when i open the throttle it turns off and when i turn it back on it idle's high and then drops really low and then turns off. When i put start fluid in the carbs, that's the only time it turns on and then shuts off after like 10 to 20 secs. What's wrong with it now?

Check for sticking float valve needle or incorrectly set float level.

try the choke too....the higher idle when you start it could be because its not unchoking. It's a thought

Clean your carbs. Then tell me how it runs.
