Riding Jackets
Riding Jackets
Be careful about buying on line as you can't try it on. I found the best place to buy quality leather gear is at big flea markets and motorcycle rallies. At the rallies the competition is so great you can get a good jacket with a removable liner starting at $100. And (drum roll please) you can try it on with the help of someone who knows how it should fit,

I wasn't clear. I was referring to ANY gear, not necessarily just leather... I still stand by my statement: If the jacket is warm enough to wear on COLD days (35-40 degrees and down) then it generally does NOT have enough venting to be tolerable on a HOT day: 85+ with 95% humidity. Especially if you have a chance of sitting in traffic, which 'bobchicken91' does, in VA.Mintbread wrote:I beg to differ.Lion_Lady wrote: I've don't own any leather gear, except my gloves, and a pair of boots.
You'll find that if its warm enough for cold weather, you'll roast in it on hot days.
I don't own any textile gear and have never had a problem with overheating, even when I am covered in cow from top to bottom.
Australia gets rather warm ( /understatement ) and I have never considered textile or mesh gear as leather does the job perfectly, lasts longer and looks a million times better.

Re: any gear
The bike rallies I've been to always have everything for all kinds of weather. Alpine Star & Joe Rocket included. I wonder what the wind chill factor would be riding in 30 degree weather with a 60 percent humidity. Brrrr The heated gloves and vest sound great.
Thank you all for your replies. I ended up with the AGV tour jacket, a picture:
