What is a good motorcycle magazine to read. What are some of your favorites, what is a good one that teaches you about hands on bikes, and information like that.

Depends on what kind of riding you like to do...

If you join the AMA (American Motorcyclist's Association), you get a really nice, everything included magazine. You also find out about pending legislation and stuff in your state and nationwide, as well as seeing some great stories about this and that.

I like RoadBike mag - its metric centered and always has a couple stories about great rides, plus a featured custom bike and the details about what is new in the sport, both for riding gear and luggage, and add-ons for your machine.

I'm sure others will chime in with their faves.

I subscribe to roadbikemag too. The focus on metric cruisers, the have a section for destinations, new bike reviews, new gear reviews, spotlights on events/rallies etc. It was $5 to subscribe for a year when I bought some stuff at cruisercustomizing.

I've been thinking of signing up for motorcyclecruiser as well.

We get MotorCyclist and CycleWorld as they are available on the shelf. No subscriptions yet as we haven't found ones we really like yet.

The Hough books got me interested enough in motorcycle consumer news to buy a one-year subscription. Haven't received the first one yet, but will let you know.

Thanks guys i appreciate the input, i really want to subscribe to a mag, but not still not sure which one, however i know i want one that is going to have information about street bikes.

Motorcyclist and CycleWorld have a lot of streetbike info. They mix cruiser in there too. I guess that's why we get those (DH has cruiser, I have sport standard/naked).

I would say to go and buy every mag you can get your hands on, and choose what fits you best. Just make sure to skim through the mag before buying, even for a short period of a few seconds.

I was in a rush and picked up one that had nothing but show bikes (think chromed 'busas and cbr's with a zillion lights... yep thats a technical phrase)
All pictures with maybe a caption or two, with no written content. Ugh. Not interesting for me. Oh they had alot of stunters too, It was almost like every page alternated from show bike(s), to advertisments, to stunters, to bikini babes, and back.

Well i know for sure i dont want a mag that just consist of watermellons and show bikes, i want more of an intellectual mag, however, bikini girls and show bikes would be a nice side dish lol. Ill just have to stop by hastings and skim through a couple and see what i like.

Hahaha, I read up to that part and for some reason asked myself, wait... why not?

I kid, I kid.

So far, the ones I like the most from what ive seen is Sport Rider and Motorcyclist. I havn't looked at any cruiser mags so I can't comment on those.

Cycleworld is cool to. I can't find Motorcycle Consumer News here, but ive heard good things of them also. Although the most ive learned about bikes has come from David Hough's books, like proficient motorcycling.

Ive read Motorcycle for Dummies, and it was a good read too. I think its more geared towards people fresh to the world of Motorcycling. It has some general info on a wide variety of bikes, whats good for beginners, maintance, tools needed for general stuff, gear and protection, saftey, and what to expect when getting into motorcycling. I feel its a good primer to Proficient Motorcycling.

P.S. The bike mag I spoke of with all the show bikes and girls was Super Street Bike.

And the only magazine that Ive gotten for two months in a row is Sport Rider, so I could have just gotten a bad month for some of the lesser liked mags ive come across.
