Telesque, thanks for the informative answer...its the kind I was looking for.
Digginit, it's good to have so many Harley riders to get their opinion. I too like the sound and style, I ride a cruiser too - with V-twin engine that vibrates too
I guess I had bad advise when I was trying to make my decision.
Gummiente, I wasn't looking for insults and none taken...
, the Suz is my first bike and I am learning.
Thanks all for the funny thread... I did not know that a honest clarification request would turn into a fight. go figure! At least it stayed relatively civil

I cannot explain; I think I had already said that I am a noobe and my knowledge is limitedGummiente wrote:If you don't think so, then please explain to me how to adjust valve clearance on a bike equipped with hydraulic lifters.

My brother has had nothing but Harleys his whole life and says that the older models require a lot of maintenance. Even an old Harley is very expensive, so you have people that want to ride a Harley but don't want to pay the expensive price for a new one. Anyhow, I was told by a few people that all of the Harleys made after or around the year 1995 are very good and require very little maintenance (right now he rides an 81 low rider). If I am wrong please don't bash me, I'm just repeating what my bro told me.allawybiker wrote:So the answer to my question is that these people that I had talked to either owned older models, or were just making things up. Does anyone know if any specific Harley model/year is less reliable? Any model/year to avoid?IMO, someone is blowing smoke up your butt.

I have an 04 883C with a stage 1 and a Victory Kingpin. I can get my sporty up to 100, but it's near it's limit. My Vic on the other hand has no problem at all. Get the stage 1, you'll be happier cause it performs a lot better. It's just not enough bike for me, (I'm by NO MEANS saying it's a bad bike though, if I didn't like it I would'nt have gotten it in the first place, it was my first bike) that's why I got the Vic now. I'm trying to sell the sporty.
