I joined this forum because I like keeping up to date and learning new things about bikes. I had a Ninja 650R but got into an accident...Hopefully I have another bike in the spring.

:welcome:

I hope the bike was the only thing that suffered from the accident. Good luck with your next one.

Thanks everyone. My bike was totaled...I did get a few injuries. After another surgery I should be almost back to normal. I have come to believe old people shouldn't drive...or at least need frequent road tests...My accident was caused by an 88 year old man who "didn't see me".

It doesn't matter how old they are, cagers always say they didn't see the biker. I think every new driver should spend a day in the jump seat of a semi, and a day on the back of a bike. Maybe, just maybe, they will learn to appreciate that those two vehicles are deserving of plenty of room and respect...

I was riding in my buddy's cage once when this turned out to be legit. We were making a left turn onto a sidestreet and hit a biker who was coming from that street, making a left turn on to the main road. Neither of us saw him.

Turns out he was running without his headlight on (at midnight) because head just robbed a convenience store. He'd pulled the fuse on his headlight, assuming that the store clerk wouldn't be able to see his plate as he rode away. What the moron didn't notice was that the taillight was on a different fuse. The clerk easily got his plate number and we stopped him cold less than a block away, because he had the headlight off.

I suppose it never occured to him that he could just take off the license plate for the getaway.

Bike Accident

#8 Unread post by Rydr »

I had drunk driver cross into my lane on a curve and he took me and the motorcycle behind me out. He 3 times over the legal limit at 8:30 in the evening. I received lots of injuries to my back, legs and wrist. That was 3 years ago last September. I was up and riding the next spring (2004). So far I've had seven surgeries to my legs, back and wrists. In the new year I'll be having a knee replacement to my left knee. The guy that ran into me got 9 months in jail of which he only served 5. Time off for good behavior and all that crap. I was determined that this a**hole wasn't going to end my years of riding. The message is if you see someone who you think may be driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs report them right away and maybe those officers that usually give us tickets can do us a favor by getting the impaired person off the road.

Hope you recover(ed) well from your accident. Ride safe.

:frusty: Sorry to hear about your misfortune, hope all goes well for ya.
Dr. Bar is absolutely right about how cagers threat bikes and trucks. Doesn't matter, young or old - drunk or sober - everyone seems to be too pre-occupied with cell phones and all kinds of other distractions to worry about their driving, and unfortunately its always the innocent that end up paying for their stupid mistakes.

Take care all, and be extra careful out there. They all seem to be out to get ya.
