I havent sat on any bikes yet, but I wont be driving one for, at least 1 year. I stil have to get my regular old drivers license. But I will make sure to do that.

And as for hyosungs, they seem really expensive compared to the ninjas and the gs500f. But I know you get what you pay for in most cases, but I dont want to drop 6 grand on my first bike.

never a better time to start getting a feel for what you like than now. And just sitting on the bike will make a huge difference in which bike you wanted to buy. I started sitting on bikes about 7-8 months before i actually bought one. I got a really good feel for what i wanted as far as a seating position by doing that.

Also, i didnt like my sv's looks either at first.. but you'd be surprised how much looks will grow on you when you are looking at the bike in person. I love my SV! I wouldnt completely suggest it as a starter bike (even tho it is my first bike) mostly because of flamage, but it's not twitchy like a 4cyl, so it is at least a better starter than an RR bike. Very torquey down low, though, so learn your clutch control.

I dont think anyone would flame you for suggesting the SV650 or SV650S for a first bike. I think for the most part, everyone here agrees that its in the grey area for a first bike. So it would be managable.

I have heard that the Ninja 650r is more beginner friendly than the SV, not only because it has a little less power(from what ive heard and read), but its pegs are closer together, which the engineers researched for beginner friendliness.

I think both those bikes have much to offer any rider, experienced and new alike.

I started on a 650R and didn't have a problem...I did have a little dirt experience too though.

What do you reckon the top speed for the ninja 650r an the sv650's are? Acceleration? I dont really want to be paying 6 and a half grand for a first bike,I do like both of them better than my previous two considerations. Is one better than the other,first bike wise?

the sv is soo much better 8) hehe
they are pretty evenly matched. The SV has a little more power and is a few pounds lighter, but the throttle isnt as smooth as the ninja from what i hear. Other than those tiny differences, they are pretty evenly matched. The SV650S has a much more radical seating position (close to a gixxer) than the SV650 or the ninja.
SVS = Sportbike seating
SV/Ninja 650r = Standard seating

You can find used bikes of the SV persuasion going back to 99. 99-02 were carbed and had no oil cooler and were a little less powerful, and the body stying was different. 03-present is the 2nd generation. Fuel injection, oil cooler, + a few other goodies.

Thanks a lot man. I find the sv650 is better ''looking'' than the ninja 650. so I think i will go with the sv650. Im a little reluctant to spend so much money on my first bike though, I will start looking through auto trader to get an idea of what a used one would cost. I love how I went from '' Im gonna get the ninja 250'' to ''I think i will get the sv650!'' lol. seems like a big difference.
