New/Old Biker here

#1 Unread post by Fast Eddy B »

Hello, everybody!

This is my first post on the message board! I've been reading quite a few of the posts, and am impressed by the breadth of the knowledge people have.

I guess I'm new to motorbikes, not a lot of miles ridden, but bikes of all kinds are my passion. Mountain biking in the steep and deep (forests) of British Columbia, 80 mile sponsored cycle rides in London, UK, and now trying to find a way to stay on two wheels during my prolonged stay in the Middle East.

I did my UK 'A' license in about a month. Direct Access was great, and tested inside the M25 motorway. London has its challenges, but I'd ride there year long. It's busy, but cars are used to dealing with bikes. (some might disagree)

To stay on two wheels here, over the next couple of years, is going to be a big compromise one way or another. I won't get into it here...

I've ridden Honda's only so far: CG125, CB500, CBR600F.

I love bikes of all kinds, and could pick out a new motorbike in a heartbeat. Triumph 1050 Tiger, Honda 919, BMW F800, Yamaha MT-01, Yamaha FZ-1, Suzuki SV1000. Many different kinds I know, and lots to be aware of, but a man can dream can't he?

So, hello to all, and I'll be reading a lot, but writing a little.

Well, :welcome: to the forums! Just so you know, I'm completely with you on the FZ and the SV, although it's seating is a little too sportbike for me personally. Anyway, why are you in the middle east, london, bc? Military? Welcome no matter what though!

Yup, both are a little too hunched up. But the V-twin in the SV (originally from the TL1000, apparently a *great* engine) has some all day cruising tourque. And I've seen lower fairings available for both the SV and FZ. UK's Bike magazine has one of its editors toying with the FZ-1 to make it as sporty as an R1 and a touring as the FJR1300. Standard stuff like race cans, and Power Commander and luggage, but also to try to solve the fueling hiccup on low throttle roll-ons.

We'll see

I've got an 04 Norco Rampage, full XT raceface for the steep and deep, and I commuted London on a Trek 1200 road bike.

If you get a chance to ride 'the shore' (North Shore Vancouver) you'll go away with dreams of ladder bridges in your head. Mine have worn off, but they're coming back.

You might think I'm crazy, but I actually miss the end-overs...you really know you're alive when it happens.

hey Eddy
here in Chicago USA!

I went to England for the Rockabilly Rave in April and it was a blast!
It was awsome to see the UK have a good ol Rockabilly festival, good music, old cars and such.
Was able to rent a motorcyle from London out to the event grounds about 1 1/2 hours away from London..it was a great motorcycle ride!
Cant wait for the rockabilly rave again this year in 2007!!
