That's awesome. At first I was like 'that's a bit extreme", but after reading about the kid, I think she did the best thing.

I think I have a tactic I used with my daughter when she was first dating that might be worth jotting down...
Being a divorced man, living in a different province, it was hard to keep track and in touch with my daughters. When my eldest daughter came out for Christmas one year, she was simply gushing about her new boy friend. After listening for awhile I assured her that I was sure he was a nice person but there was only one thing I needed to know about him...
"Does he wear boxers or briefs?"
She jumped up and looked at me like I was crazy and answered,
"How the heck would I know?"
My reply, (with my back turned) was a very silent but deserved...
"YES!!!!"

To be honest though, it very well could have backfired on me if she said he went commando...

x2, but does any kid NOT get presents anymore? I remember one year I got a bag of coal.anarchy wrote:i'm surprised the kid was getting any presents to begin with...
I can just imagine a kid feeling so entitled to Christmas presents that he would try to sue his parents if he didn't get any.

i guess it's easy to say that a kid wouldn't be getting presents if they were that bad... thankfully i don't have kids that bad, so it's not a worry... but i have been trying to install in the kids that christmas isn't about presents. it's a tough sell when all they're being bombarded with is advertisements for more and more toys/gifts for christmas.

Only problem is, if the kid is truly ADHD, this ain't gonna work. The kid's not really able to control himself or his behavior. I'm no liberal, but if the kid is truly ADHD, he's not able to consider the outcomes of his actions. You have to deal with things are they are. Punishment can backfire if treatment is what's needed.
There was a point when my stepson was growing up, if it wasn't for ritalin, he'd be in jail now. I know ritalin gets a bad rap for being over-prescribed. But for some kids, it's a life saver.

And whose fault would that be? I found it a bit surprising that the kid is facing expulsion from school and was still getting a new Nintendo console for Christmas."He's been going through life doing things... and getting away with it," she said.
If you let a kid go through life getting away with bad acts, you have effectively trained them that there are no consequensces for their actions. It's really not their fault if they keep misbehaving.
This may be too little, too late.
