dude, i totally know how you feel....like "poo poo"....i did the same w/ ninja 500...dropped it after a week or two of purchase....thankfully, these guys here @ TMW were the ones who talked me out of getting the gsxr that i wanted for my first bike....again guys, thx.

anyway man, "poo poo" happens...so don't feel TOO bad...anyway, from my point of view and from what i've gotten off other ppl's posts, you have 2 options:

first off, take the MSF...then..buy a good-"O Ring" helmt...and a leather jacket...and boots...and if you can afford leather pants which i highly recommend...HIGHLY(past experience)....then

1. If you can afford it.....keep the gixxer garaged and have a buddy ride it every once in a while so its not just sitting there.....in the meanwhile, go out and spend 3k on a ninja 500...doesn't matter if its from 1990 or 2005....learn on it, play with it, even drop it if you'd like...ride it for 6 months to a year so you learn throttle control, street riding...etc...then in a year or whenever you think you're ready, you have that sexy gsxr waiting for you in your garage!

OR

2. i know this one might be a little tough...but sell the gsxr, and yes, ofcourse you will lose about 2-3k due to the fact that the bike loses value the second you take it out of the dealership, and two, because of the damages, but ifs just a few scratches, then i wouldn't worry about the value dropping TOO much...but make sure you sell it while its still "new", in other words, while it's still a "most wanted".....once you sell it....get the ninja 500...and next year get the 2008 gsxr 600....by that time you could even jump up to the gixxer 1000 if you wanted...tho i think the 600 is way sexier than the 1,000.

eitherway, best of luck to you.

P.S. i was actually at the suzuki dealership today and was approved for the 07 gsxr....but i didn't go through with it just because of the $5k that i'd have to throw away for the finance charged (over 5 years)...i was getting a good deal too, $9,500 out the door...just don't tell me that you got the red/white cause thats the one i wanted...anyway, i don't care if you crashed it, if it is the red/white, then i'm jealous.

Selling it as this point is silly. Why would he sell it and eat a 2-3k loss when he can just buy a second small learner bike for under 2k?

you make a very good point.

but aside from the fact of the money loss....its VERY difficult to have a bike like that sitting in the garage and still have to ride the ninja....don't get me wrong, i love my ninja and its awesome but that gixxer is a whooooooooole different thing.

but ya, if you can afford it, the best thing would be to keep the gsxr.

Well I assume he isn't 6, so I think he will be able to control himself. My point was that if he takes such a huge depreciation hit, he should just buy the second bike because he will break even or lose less by doing so.

Don't feel bad - I totally understand your excitement and enthusiasm. Plus, you sound like you learned... Also - I did not drop my first bike, nor my second. I dropped my third. SO, it is quite possible that even if you would have started on something else...

Oh - check with your mechanic. I think that's the best way. You keep running it without knowing what's up... (is that a girly .02?)

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. I dopped my brand new Yamaha Majesty scooter, practicing in the parking lot when I first got it.

Hi all,

I'm back and want to thank ALL of you that helped me.

It was tough to not ride, but i kept myself in check. passed the "HELL" out of my MSF and now feel MUCH more confident on my Gixxer.

The smoke problem stopped, and i am taking it in for service later this week. just to make sure my baby is ok.

So other than an Ego injury and some "character scratches" Me and the bike are just fine.

I'm learning my bikes personality and taking everything slowly for now while i adjust. It's definitely a different beast from the 250's at the MSF class, but i'm doing great so far.

Thank you again.
