xs400 headlight

#1 Unread post by chappys4life »

I just bought a 1980 xs400 a few weeks ago as my first bike since I am learning how to ride. I went for a night cruise with a friend and the dang headlight is sooooo dim. I had him try it too (he has been riding a while and used to work at a motorcycle shop) I need to get some type of replacement and I prefer halogen. My only issue is I am having trouble locating a headlight for it. I thought it would be the same size as on a xs650 but that does not look true. I bought a 7" headlight (which a xs650 uses) and it doesnt fit, it is about 1/2" to big. Any ideas where I can get a proper head light bulb that is halogen?

I think that there are 3 sizes of lights, 5 and 3/4 in; 6 and 1/2 in. and 7 in. I have a 6 and 1/2 in. on my kawa 750 halogen 100 watts high beam 80 watts low beam. It puts out a lot of light.

that would probably work as long as the wattage is pretty close to the oem light, or else the charging system can't keep up.
we have a 35/50w 7 inch incandescent on ours (or should i say hers), works great.
