Biker Bars

Damn, I want a cigarette! I've had one of those craving days, even after more than 3 years off of 'em. I only drink occasionally, and always at home. And, when I get on the bike, the last thing I think about is a beer. The ride itself is enough of a high for me, and around here, most of the drinking places are Harley joints, and I don't think those guys really want to talk about anything but Harleys. Yawn.....

I've spent enough time in outlaw bars in Detroit to know one thing - they don't talk much about their bikes anyway. They drink - LOTS - and then the men discuss their club (er, gang) business, and the women sit around dishing about the new girl and how "she ain't all that". Then for long stretches at a time everyone is just staring at the back bar wall. It's about the most depressing place to be. And since the only travelling I do after big drinking is on foot, I end up hanging around stone sober, which of course adds to my misery. (The only enjoyable factor is at one place where the lady bartender will, for an extra $2, mix your drink with her shirt up over her gigantic ta-tas. Well, not my drink because I'm not into chicks, but it's still entertaining to witness.) An outlaw place is very distict looking - just looks sad and worn out. And unless you know someone who is already in with the crowd, you should just ride on past.

I get the most conversation out of other bikers at the ice cream stops. Our dairy farm/restaurant in our town is loaded with all different types of bikers all season. And nobody is competing or showing off how sauced they can get. Just a nice sunny time!

Yesterday I drove by one of our local biker bars, and parked outside was a raked-out home made chopper, looked like it was made out of 1-1/4 galvenized plumbing pipe, with what looked like a large chainsaw engine. I would liked to have seen the rider, but he was probably enjoying a shrimp cocktail and iced tea inside.
