My god-father was a motorcycle racer, (Indian) and raced with his best friend, (Trev Deeley) all over Canada and the States. They loved the Daytona races the best, down the beach and back up the highway.

Every summer, Trev would give my god-father a loaner to use for a few weeks. I got my first taste of motorcycles at the tender age of 4 or 5 wrapped around the gas tank in front of my God-father on a Harley.

My first solo ride was at about 11 or 12 on my friends dirt bike, back allies, and Burnaby Mountain trails... I owned my first bike at 17 (500cc 1971 Kawasaki H1)and have always wanted to ride, even in those years, (and years and years) that I never owned a bike. That '71 H1 was a wild and crazy ride, sold it before I was able to kill myself on it. Not a very forgiving bike...

I'm not counting the moped my friend I use to ride at 13. My first time on a bike was at the class a month ago, I'm 31. Will be 32 tomorrow. I'm starting late, but boy has the past several weeks been great learning on my new bike.

My husband rode a mini bike for several years when he was a kid. Then I got him into bikes when I insisted we take the course. He's loving his HD 883. My hubby is 41.

Although I attempted to ride a boyfriend's bike in high school, it doesn't really count - I couldn't flat-foot it and had no idea as to what I was doing, so of course I immediately dumped the poor bike.

After years of lamenting over the lack of bike in my life, I got my first real ride at age 35.

Cheers,
Loonette

I never had the time or money to learn how to ride till I was out of the Marine Corps. Now I'm hooked!

How old were you??

I was talking about this the other day at FTW HD. I remember I was 14 and for Christmas that yr my parents got me my 1st bike, a Yamaha 80, REALLY COOL.... canary yellow, this was in the early 70's. I had a minibike, the summer before this but, it was a beater. I remember riding it through the house with it started, from the entrance, through the hallway into the kitchen, then the dining room into the livingroom. I remember turning the turn signals on and flashing the hazard lights at night. The neighbors must have thought we were getting invaded with all the flashing lights coming from "inside" the house. One thing I don't remember is where all the exhaust fumes went and why my folks put up with it. Maybe this is the reason, everything else happened later in life......still crazy after all these years!!! From Yamaha's to Harley's exactly how its suppose to happen. WHAT A LIFE I HAVE!!!

8 years young...
Don't give up.

Not now, not soon, not after being continually knocked down.

If you never give up, you can never truly fail.

I was 8 or 9, tiny little 50cc dirtbike. The first street bike I rode was also small, 125cc, when I was 12 living in Malaysia. In hindsight, riding on the streets of a third world nation as an expatriate, probably wasn't the wisest thing I've ever done, but then, I type this from a location 200m away from a recent mortar attack in Iraq.

My first experience with bikes was...less than fulfilling.

My dad built me and my brother a little minibike with a gokart engine in it, and I loved riding it around in our backyard, but one day I managed to get myself into the slipping off -> trying to hold on -> pulling the handlebars and accelerating cycle of doom, and it kinda spooked me.

I've recently felt the desire to give 'em a shot again, though.
