First Bike

I might get flamed out for asking this, but how's a ZZR600 for a first bike? I have many years (8 or so) or dirt experience behind me.

That there is a lot of bike, but your not a compleat noob. You might be better off though, to get a smaller bike to start out street riding on.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

ZZR600 is a great choice for a beginner bike, if you already have the fundamentals from dirt bikes. Still, take the MSF Basic Rider course before venturing about on the street. The street-smarts are as valuable as the actually riding skills. It, or the very similar FZ6, will be my next bike.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

With previous experience, at least you will know how to control the throttle and braking action. I actually love the zzr600, and its alot more comfortable than any of the newest generation supersports. I don't know anyone that has one, so I never ridden it. But I felt an immediate difference from just sitting on all the bikes in the showroom floor for half an hour or longer each.

Maybe check out a 650cc bike, like the Sv650S or Ninja 650r. The Sv's even have lower fairings you can get for them to complete that look you may be after.

Although Ive lived almost half my life on the dirt, I choose a 500cc street bike. I liked the fuel efficiency, and the increased manuverability from center with the slimmer tires. Perfect for my near 100 mile commute. But I came really close to choosing the zzr600 instead. I also liked the VFR series, but I wanted the previous generation interceptor, not the current offering. Just personal preference there.

Considering you already have dirt bike skills then the ZZR600 should be fine. Just take it easy on the road until you feel comfortable with the bike and traffic. If you feel the need for speed then go to a track day. Ride safe and enjoy the new bike.

wow if you have eight years of experience of motorcycling, it would seem like that would be enough to get that 600cc bike.. Eight years is half my life!
