tire replacement???

#1 Unread post by telefunkin »

hey all,

Generally speaking, how worn down do you let a tire get before replacing? I recently bought a used 83 yamaha xs400 maxim. Looking at the front tire, it is worn down but not by much. If it was a car tire I wouldn't give it a second look. On a bike, I'm not so sure.

I don't think that test is valid for a motorcycle tire. Traction comes much differently for a bike than a car.

The tires should have a wear bar. If the tread is there, replace them.

exactly a penny test doesnt work with motorcycles. Hell I can almost see the whole penny on the treads in teh middle of my cycle tires and I have yet to "skid" or anything even in water. Is it safe to let it go that far probably not thus why I have been trying to get an apointment for about 5 days now to get my bike in to have the tires replaced. If I was to let my vehicles tires get that low id be all over the road.
