Question regarding yamaha product

#1 Unread post by jjhotrods »

Just wanted to see if anyone else heard of this? While I realize that California requires cat converters on all bike brands does anyone know if yamaha has infact done this with all their bikes as of 06? Or is their AIS system their version of a catalytic converter? I currently own a Vstar and would like to change exhausts, however if they have a full catalytic converter system on the bike it probably reduce the effect of a exhaust change. I know in 05 models they had not made it part of bike excluding california models. Thanks guys. Hope you all had a good christmas and happy new year.

hey JJ
got an 06 650 classic and yes it has Cats in them, so there are a couple of homemade mods that i can no longer do ( Slash cut mod). Doesnt mean you cant get aftermarket pipes and such, you'll just need to check w/ the manufacturer on that. i am not sure if Cobra has their pipes up and going for the 06 models.
You may want to look for the Delphi Forum called CCD (Custom, Classic and dragster). ALL yamaha ( Model specific) riders that help out on technical stuff, local rides and help w/ questions like yours.
do a google search and put in

650 V Stars "Custom, Classic & Dragstar"

i think there is also an 1100 forum too just in case you have a different model.

on a final note, for a really good sounding modifcation, you can always do a "full gutt" and take everything out of the exhaust. I've heard it and it sounds really really good and the things you'd do for new pipes ( like rejetting) you'd need to do anyways for this mod too...just something to think about since most people dont do anything w/ thier stock pipes after they get thier new exhaust systems. I hear its really easy to gut your 06 V*.
