snip.... its a 55mph zone all the way through. we rarely ever get above 100 even in the straights. im not saying that we arent putting people at risk and breaking laws , i can admit that no problem. however that news cast made the sportbike riders up there out to be absolute maniacs with no regard for anyone but themselves, which is absolutely untrue. most of us maintain a spirited pace throughout the mountains, but we are not making the roads unsafe for drivers. louder, without question, but not dangerous.

People go walking or jogging for their health and to stay fit... yet there are those who get hit by a vehicle, have a heartattack, get mugged, or get murdered...

Meteorites have actually been known to slam through houses and even kill residents... people have died in their sleep... blah blah blah

There is risk in everything dirty... you know you only need 1 inch of water to drown... yet people still use bathtubs...

There is a difference from using something that could be dangerous, and using something to do things that may endager yourself or others.

Every mass produced bike that rolls of the manufacturing line isn't inheriently dangerous... its the human element and other factors found on the road that can raise the risk.

Please have some consideration for the other LEGAL operators on the roads. If you want to run twisties, find, or lobby for construction of, a LEGAL race track.
When I got into racing, we approached the City Council and it took 3 years to convince them to even allow us to build a track, but it was built. Road racing dropped almost to zero and the only ones hurt were the bikers on the track, not some innocent 'tourist' or commuting civilian.

Yeah, unfortunately it's the only way to survive in this gosh city of mine. I see cars drive by at pretty much 15 - 20 over the limit and that includes regular streets. Try riding the speed limit and you always have one car thinking they should just pass you by going over the double yellow and merge back in while your near their rear end regardless of braking because some "O Ring" was tailgating you after the other guy passed. You weave in and the driver becomes scared and stays far away, you split lanes to get to the front of the light will save you the headache of an idiot inching into your rear for unknown reasons.

Obey the rules and you get burned, be a BIT reckless and chances are the cager you passed will notice you but hold all of us in a bad light.

And don't use the innocent 'tourist' or commuting civilian thing cause many of the ones I encounter do much worse from cab drivers to inattentive people in a rush to get somewhere. Looking at the paper today some "dog" died after hitting a tree because she swerved off the road while putting on make-up. The paper made such tasks as mundane normal everyday driving. I bet you if there was a biker hit by her they would demonize the biker.

Going to the city and state results in nothing because we're in the way of traffic. As soon as I get a car then I can do the same to two wheelers.

Getting hot under the collar because bikers are discriminated against is one thing. Getting p1ssed off with cagers who drive dangerously and put bikers at risk is another. I'll join you in those. Too damned right! And I'll go along with you that there are situations where you just need to look after yourself and sod the law.

But nothing justifies putting other people's lives at risk by dangerous riding for the hell of it.

There is still something called 'individual responsibility' whatever other people do.

'Tourists and commuting civilians' are not some kind of composite animal. The guy in the car you smack into because you are riding dangerously might have sent a dozen bikers down the road or he might be some guy who has never committed a traffic offence in his life. You don't know. Neither do I.

And personally, I don't think it matters.

And as for you saying I'm the bad one let's get one thing straight I got a ticket when I ran from some "O Ring" who thought it was fun to tail me. Ride in the right to let him pass, no go. Slow down a bit and the guy starts slamming his brakes and swerves and flashes his light and honks shortly after. He gunned his engine but I split instead of being an idiot an sees what happens after.

Same road weeks later and I'm doing the 35mph limit. Cagers blast past me at 50 - 60 mph but there was no cop this time. I'm not much of a speed freak because I hate having my bike whine and instead would like a gently thrum of an engine so basically I have a slow bike. Hell I even detuned it to get more of a '60's Triumph feel to it.

I said over and over again that being a BIT reckless gets you noticed, don't go overboard, but it also holds all of us in a bad light so I still obey the rules and I've got $1000 worth of damages to prove it. Come visit my city and shut the hell up.

If I seem mad well lets just say I got another ticket for blocking traffic when some cabbie kept honking at me in a no horn zone and I went over to tell him that people in front won't move. I get a ticket he doesn't. The supposedly religious holidays create self absorbed "Donut Holes" which make many New Yorkers and tourists.

Only becauase you don't like it. As a media professional, I thought there was reasonable diligence - as much as one can expect from U.S. broadcast outlets, anyhow (they tend towards sensationalism compared to the rest of the world).

And that, ladies and gents, is why my insurance rates are so high. When I'm riding my pedal bike, if I'm doing the speed limit, I will take a classic "blocking position."
If people are passing me, they are _breaking the )#&*$( law)_.
Why do you think so many bikers are wiping out in corners, running over deer and other "poo poo" they didnt' see? Because THEY WERE GOING TOO FAST.

My first 150,000 road kms; thats what. My bike licence happened on my 16th birthday, with no crashes until after my 28th.
