A rising number of motorcycle injuries are raising questions over the state's rules on biker insurance.

Florida is one of only two states in the country that does not require insurance across the board for motorcyclists.

In the Sunshine State, insurance is optional for anyone 21-years or older who wears a helmet.

Experts say the age group getting into the most crashes is between 40 and 55 years old.

Experts say even those who do carry insurance, often times do not have enough coverage.

Jerry Palladino said, "If that particular driver has a $10,000 or $20,000 insurance policy, that's probably not going to cover or come anywhere near covering your medical bills, If you have no insurance yourself, you're just out of luck."

The only other state that does not require motorcycle insurance is Washington.

I'm 19 and I live in FL. I've also been looking to buy a new bike by spring break. Is it really true that FL does not require insurance? My mom says that you do, as does everyone else I talk to. If you don't need insurance, this would be a godsend because I have 3 tickets and a car accident in my record, so I was worried I wouldn't even be insured by anyone, and even if I were insured, the payments would be outrageous.

Per the OP you must be 21 and wear a helmet to waive insurance. Here in Washington it is not a requirement that you carry motorcycle inssurance, but you are still liable for $20,000 IIRC.
