Engine running at half capacity?

#1 Unread post by Akriss930 »

I'm rather confused as to what is going on
my bike worked just fine yesterday
on my way into work today i noticed it was going rather sluggish
when i increase the throttle it will accelerate and get up to speed like normal but when i get the throttle about halfway open it is not getting anymore power than it is at halfway??

I know that it is not very descriptive but I have no clue what is wrong with it and was hoping someone might have had a similar problem in the past :frusty: :frusty: :frusty: :frusty:

A friend of mine had a tear in his carb diaphragm, so when he opened the throttle initially it would work, but as vacuum changed with the throttle opening more the tear would allow air through and he couldn't get above 4000rpm. Needle just wouldn't lift any higher.

Regardless, there are a couple of things you should check, make sure your throttle cable isn't getting hung up or kinked somewhere. Make sure your airbox is clean of debris, and doesn't have a rag sitting on top of it. Is the choke still on?
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

yep, that was a real pain. turned what promised to be a fun weekend into a stress fest and what would have been a 2hr ride home into 4hrs of hell.
