Regarding Tattoo Goo - My "guy" in Florida - whose advice I would agree with because of how long, his work, his awards, his education - said that Tattoo Goo changed it's formula, and he would no longer recommend using it. Somewhere in the last few years it changed....

Regarding the Bacitracin - I have also been told to only use for a day or two, then switch to vasoline or A&D. Dave says vasoline is fine!

A thin, thin layer is all you need to keep the moisture in, but don't make it goopy. The biggest threat is dryness - especially if your clothing gets stuck on the new tat. That can pull the color out. So will picking it. Don't touch it!! After about 4 days, just switch to an uncented lotion. The uncented is just so that it isn't sting-y.

I find the "after care" rumors mirror the "riding a motorcycle" rumors!
Do not scrub it to get the scab or dead skin off. Do not use a wash cloth on it. (use both brakes...)

I think that some spots don't get quite enough ink. It is possible some "falls out". You can get a touch up, but not till it's totally healed. I had to have the touch up on my armband... I think it is common for an artist to tell you to stop back in a few weeks to have them take a look. A good artist will - he wants yourtat to be his advertisement...

I agree - they look great on day one or two. Then there is the period when it is "cooking". Skin comes off, there might be scabs. Then one day, it's all smooth. That is when you can show it again....

Gosh - I am jealous!

PS - I tried to take pics of mine, but I can't do it myself!!

I just reviewed the sketch and scheduled my next tat. I'm doing a memorial tat to my Dad who passed in September. I having it done on my left forearm so I can always look at it when I need to. I having a picture of a man and a boy looking at some geese flying over a lake on a hunting trip in the wood. It has a cabin and a small pile of geese as well. I can't wait to see it finished and in living color as well. I think my dad would totally dig on it too.

My main man, "Scan", has his second tattoo in the beginning stage. The outline is done, and in mid-March he'll be getting three shades of gray, plus some black in the yin-yang symbol. The chain links were traced from a photo of his actual bike chain on his ZRX. The design was Scan's idea, and I did the line work on paper. It already looks pretty cool, but once the shading is done, it's really gonna look great.

Cheers,
Loonette

Missed this thread all together somehow. One tat so far;

Taz Firefighter on my left calf. Next tat will be a Taz Paramedic on my right. Not sure what I'll get after that.

Not a great pic. Have to work on getting a better one. Still looks really good for being 5 years old I think.

I've started planning my first, now I need to talk to a couple of artists to find someone who is willing to do mine, and get over this whole starving student "poo poo". Hopefully I'll have it start in August.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
