There were only a very few XR750s made, and most were raced and subsequently crashed. I would love to see a retro-look XR750 produced, preferably by H-D, but one of the copycats could be reverse engineering them, too.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.
I can't see Ozzy's photo [edit: OK, now I can. Yeah, I thought so, that's Mert's street tracker. Expensive. I'd feel a little pretentious running around with a bike that had #1 plates on it ] The quote that XR's are commanding a quarter mill is a factor of 10 off. If you can find one, you'll be looking at 25-35K$ but you'd better be ready to pay for serious mechanical support. The motors are very highly tuned. Back in the early 70's, I raced Sportsman on both a Bultaco single and a BSA twin. Now, years later, I bought a nice streetable custom based on the 1200 Sportster. It has a Champion frame, Buell forks, WB gas shocks, Supertrapp exhaust, etc. It was one of a few built by Bartell's in 1993. Ain't no 150MPH canyon carver but it sure is fun to ride.
As an anecdote I just watched Easy Rider for the first time about 2 weeks ago. It’s more of a commentary on the end of the 60's and American culture, etc as much as a hippie/druggie biker movie. The behind the scenes stories are very interesting and there is some excellent cinematography. some of the stuff i loved the filmographer discussed in the DVD commentary. a neat story.
The first non-sports related TV I recall being interesting from a motorcycling perspective was Happy Days: Fonzie's his silver Triumph.
BTW, Central Ozzy and especially 307T - VERY NICE!!!! one of the few Harley's I've ever liked, although I thought the Bad Boy was a neat thing, cruiser wise, and some Buell's are cool, if they try so hard to be perfect that they seem to miss the point, unlike these dirt tracker replicas. Interesting that you went with an upside down fork. That and the front fender would be the few things I'd change of that was my toy. Again, very cool bike!
"Zounds! Zorched by Zarches, Spaceman Spiff's crippled craft crashes on planet Plootarg!"
