Honda CB450

#1 Unread post by Puyopop »

Looking at it as a first bike, i like the bike and the looks i think are pretty cool, but the bike i found has no gauge cluster which i was wondering approximately how much that would cost to get? Also with no gauge cluster it has no odometer, so theres no definite way to tell the KM's on the bike other than simply taking the owners word for it. I have some pics to if you guys wanna see it.

Of course we wanna see the pics, you might get more of a response too.
I have to know the year and exact model to tell you anything about it. There are other ways to find out the approx. miles on a bike, how it has been treated etc. just by looking at it really.. but you need to open her up to give you a better idea. Usually the miles is always on the title certificate. No guage cluster means to me the seller is hiding something. If he is really eager to sell it to you, then be really suspicious. A guy tried to sell me a jeep with a broken oil pressure guage, soon to find out that the guage was working fine but it actually didn't have any oil pressure. It ran but wouldn't have lasted more that 100 miles before i was stranded. That bike also might have no oil pressure, and you won't be able to find out without that guage. To me, I would rather find a new bike instead of taking a big risk like that one.

That being said, my sister has a 81 cb400 and its great.

yeah thanks, thats why i posted is i am slightly suspicious as it stands right now. The bike is located about two hours away and might not be worth my time if I'm going to not be able to make up my mind if im taking the risk or not he wanted 1000 bucks for it which is pretty decent so other than the actual gauge cluster problem I really like the bike. He said he got the bike from someone else and that is who told him how many KM's are on the bike which was about 22000, and he said he has only actually rode the bike around the block a couple times which may lead me to be even more suspicious but then again it is pretty cold and has snowed recently in my area and he is only 2 hours away so i dont really know what to make of it.

And heres a few pics. :D It look like really good conditon as far as i can tell also. (having not actually looked at the bike though).

*He also said he put brand new tires on it which isn't something you would do to a bike thats got problems and your trying to get rid of i wouldn't think.

There are after market guage clusters out there. If you don't know how/aren't willing to do the work yourself, best bet would be to call your local honda dealer and get some quotes on stock or aftermarket BEFORE taking a trip out to see the bike.

cb450

Looking at the pics it is also missing the front fender and the fork braces. Wonder what else it is missing or needs. The cb450s are a good bike( my last bike was a cb450e) from the mid 80s. This bike looks much newer. Might make it easier to find parts.

Thanks for the observation there, i noticed the front fender but didnt think it was that big of a deal, the fork braces i didnt notice until you mentioned it. It was on ebay but the auction ended with the bid just below the reserve price, he wants 1000 bucks but considering the situation of the missing odometer which is a big minus aswell as the other missing part i would have to make a lower offer for sure.
