Feeling pressured

Pez D Spencer wrote:Don't get me wrong, the brotherhood aspect of all bikers waving at each other is cool, but after awhile it starts feeling like "The Kiss Hello" episode on Seinfeld. It starts getting tedious and even if you don't want to wave you still feel obligated. Also when I initiate a wave and someone doesn't wave back it REALLY pisses me off. It's kinda like when you are in your car and you let someone cut in front of you and you don't get a "thank you wave" from them. When I do a favor for someone on the road and they don't give me a thank you wave I feel like following them home and smashing their skull in.
and it is actually not that hard of a thing 2 do to acknowledge another rider that has gave a wave i knw myself i could do it a millions times and it still is not going to bother me if we all felt like that we would be one giant depressed state, So ride on and be happy that there are others out there who feel the way we do!

If you were on a unicycle I might chuckle a bit :)

what about motocops?

#66 Unread post by teabgs »

Hey.. another n00b with questions about the subject.

What about motorcycle cops? I rode by one the other day and I wasn't sure if I should wave or not...since he's a cop. I didn't wave, but I did nod, which I've had people do to me instead of wave. He didn't reciprocate, but just watched me ride by slowly turning his head to follow me until I passed him.

Is that normal? Should I NOT acknowledge motorcycle cops?

I've also noticed a large proportion of riders NOT waving back to me. Is this because I'm in Los Angeles? Most of the sportsbikes seem to wave even though I'm on a cruiser, but a LOT of other cruisers don't seem to nod or wave. Especially the ape hangers... they never do and I sort of feel like maybe I shouldn't wave to them. It's weird.

The only guys who haven't waved to me were on Harleys. My bike is a Kawasaki Zephyr, which is a FAR cry from a sport bike ninja look, so those guys must be pretty self absorbed.

I wave or nod at every law enforcement officer I see (and not with just one or two fingers). But, I know most of the LEO's in my area. Some will wave back, some will nod, others will wonder just what the Hell you're up to and possibly follow you for a bit. That goes for being on a bike or in a cage.

As for getting acknowledgements reciprocated from other bikers, pretty much everyone waves at everyone around here. You get the odd Sportbike that won't wave at Cruisers or Harley that only waves at Harleys.... such is life. I still wave (or nod in a corner) to everyone.
