Bush is getting too big for his britches. If he truly meant that, he wouldn't be forcing the passport issue for Canadians travelling to the USA.

I think he has another agenda and it's not about a "union". The USA wants our water, our electricity, our oil and our wood.

Bush needs to re-think his "union" idea.

I think he is hoping that the Mexicans will want to live in Canada.

I think the guy writing the article doesn't know his "O Ring" from a hole in the ground.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Could be another attempt to divert our attention like the reporter is claiming the fence along the mexican border is.

I also saw this on CNN last night, that is what led me to find this article. Admittedly I have no clue who this guy is who wrote the article so know nothing of his reliability.

Well, if Canada were to suddenly be part of the US or some new country, that would be an easy swing to the left and all the Bush types out.

I would be happy if we got rid of immigration issues between the US and Canada. I would love to move back to Vancouver but having to jump through those hoops and wait a year sucks.

I agree.

All of the things he quotes point to the US wanting Canada and Mexico to vastly increase their own border protection (with the rest of the world, not with the US) so that the US doesn't have to invest quite as much time and money protecting its borders with these two countries.

"A long-term goal for a North American border action plan should be joint screening of travelers from third countries at their first point of entry into North America and the elimination of most controls over the temporary movement of these travelers within North America."

In other words:
"Canada and Mexico, get your "poo poo" together and screen your travelers according to US standards and US terrorist lists so that we don't have to spend as much money worrying about our physical borders with you."

Look at this author's credits:

"Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry" (along with John O'Neill), "Black Gold Stranglehold: The Myth of Scarcity and the Politics of Oil" (along with Craig R. Smith), "Atomic Iran: How the Terrorist Regime Bought the Bomb and American Politicians," and most recently, "Minutemen: The Battle to Secure America's Borders."

Yeah, this guy has a fantastic grip on reality.

Or your crazy $2 coins! I accidentally gave away about $15 to a bum once there before I remembered about all the $1 and $2 coins. :frusty:

Actually I liked having the diverse bills and coins after I got used to it.
