You have to learn to crawl before you learn to walk if you know what I mean.
Well keep in mind that these were all my BAD experiences in one week. Yes, I should be more careful. But I also like gaining the experience. Yesterday there was a wind warning and it was raining....so I went out for a ride. Certain body parts shrunk, but it was fun and good experience. I didn't buy a volvo now did I? :)

Ok, I agree with Ian. You have these harrowing experiences, more in a week than I have in a year of riding, you're new to the bike so you haven't developed alot of skill yet and you go out in bad conditions with wind warnings? That's a bit on the stupid side.

the only not so smart things he did I think are these: (or dont make sense)
like this one. dont really understand what you are saying. are you saying you split lanes?

"I can move in front of traffic rather than be stuck behind it. But it has caused me to take some overly spirited speeds through turns that I've had to brake in and have almost gone off both sides of the road. Yikes. "

and this ones pretty reckless

"I had to cut accross 3 lanes to get to the left turn lane to get to class"

i know, ive been only riding for 6 months BUT i have 1600 miles under my belt. cutting across 3 lanes is really dangerous... when switching through 1 lane, ppl are pretty cautious and looking at their blind spots for traffic and stuff... but cutting 3 lanes man

Wow... 6 months and only 1600 miles? I've been riding since the end of August, so 7 months now, bought my bike at 3750 mi. Just earlier today I passed 6200, so I'm at a grand total of 2450... Plus that includes not riding most of December or January due to the freakin Colorado cold and snow! lol Although Wisconsin had to be cold too... And it's supposed to snow tomorrow too... I do know a lady with a sportster who bought her bike at the beginning of April, and has to date put less than 1500 miles on it...

god after reading this post i said damnit wrider and, i went down to my bike, took the cover off and read it again. im at 1982 miles. 1600 was just a random guess to put in the post, i haven't checked the odo in a while.

but im riding almost everyday now if its not raining. 3:00 to 5:00 PM. im rackin up about 20-50 miles per day. I like it here, tons of places to discover, so many roads. I usually figure out a road ill ride the day before and check out the weather.

For tomorrow, since its a friday, im going to bike all day (since I dont have any close friends here lol). Tomorrows gonna be partly cloudy with a max of 57 degrees, precip at 10%, winds at 15 mph. not too bad.

I'm going to take the back roads to Laguna Seca, take some pictures and come back. about a 20 mile round trip! hell yeah!

AND DONT WORRY WRIDER, YOUR MILEAGE COUNT WILL BE GREATLY SURPASSED BY MINE SOON. MUHAHA

Nice... I usually rack up about 50-100 miles a day just riding around doing errands, exploring roads (since gas is relatively cheap on the bike). Granted though, that's just when I can ride... I'm beginning to hate snow!
Tomorrow is supposed to be 52 with 15-20 MPH winds... Nice! Although Saturday it might snow apparently... so that sucks... And Dohun, just wait for summer, I guarantee I'm gonna kick your mileage right out the window! not like we are going to have a contest or anything

Yes.

The only harrowing experience was the one of the picture I posted. The others were small mistakes that I don't use to weigh my value of being a human with. I did fine in the wind too, I was very comfortable pressing against it and letting up when it died down.

I posted this figuring that at least one person entered motorcycling with passion and excitement (think of it - a new brand called passion scooters....weeeeeeeeee!!!!!), and while I have to admit I've been scared at times, the rush and feel for the road is the paramount entertainment....and most of the time my fears have been related to my bike bleeding on me, overheating and having to deal with that while being a new rider on the road.

But I accept the stupid (along with defensive driving, of course) and I accept the criticism, as I never want to endanger another being. It runs in my blood, and I'll love it till it kills me. Just like how I break up with all the girlfriends who end up loving me. Just like how I go out and buy the biggest drum sticks that are in production and end up drumming like a tarzan tantrum by the end of my show...I'll save intellignence for essays and whored out posts of my inner thoughts. If those exist.

hmm my first week.

1. Bought my bike and drive it down 60 miles of 70mph highway with wife behind me in van.

2. Rode into a rain storm/hail storm but I had no choice that day.

3. Rode through 1 foot of water due to the rain storm flooding parts of roads.

4. All this done on bald tires that needed replaced which are now replaced.

Other than that I havent had anyone pull out in front of me nor turn in front of me though im sure someday that will happen.

5. the worst thing I did so far was to turn onto another street knowing the corner was pure ice. Luckily I kept my wits and was able to get out of it but the whole time I was like well im going down I might as well relax. Surprised I didnt go down lol. not gonna tell ya what I did to stay up but there is a thread started on that already. Then on the way home we had an ice fog warning that I had to ride in and it was 18F. I wasnt cold but I wasnt warm (cept my heated hands from the lovely heated gloves). Had to ride home with visor half open because it frosted over within 30 seconds of riding down the road. I did do 45mph rather than 65 but thats mostly cause I couldnt see more than 30ish feet in front of me. Hey I rode to work and had to ride home cause how else was I gonna get home. Good thing I had new tires put on in January :D.
