Profficient Motorcycling book

#1 Unread post by wapam »

Is it going to help or hurt to read this book before I take the MSF BRC? Are the techniques/strategies/information different than what is taught in the BRC?

Should I take the BRC first and just focus on their way of teaching (to hopefully pass the test(s)) and then read the book after?

Thank you.

Go ahead and read it. There's lots of good information in it.

+1 get it now and read it. The information in there is very practical and fairly spot on with the basics. It's backed up by experiences and examples as well. The text is very easy to understand.

Oh yeah, beware the binding!

Proficient Motorcycling is more about getting an experienced rider's attention to hazards and stuff.

I found More Proficient Motorcycling to be a more "how to" book for myself. (I have both plus Street Strategies.)

I am reading it now, I am pretty impressed with the quality of this book so far. I will be talking MSF in April sometime.

I also found some videos on youtube about how to ride, MSF, etc.

It won't hurt to read the book before the MSF class. But your understanding of some things in the book will be different after you experience them as physical actions. So, read the book, take the class, then read the book again. You'll have some "aha!" moments the second time through the book.
