LADIES - Riding while Pregnant...?

hey ladies !

i had a customer ask me this afternoon if i knew anything about riding while being pregnant. does anyone have any advice/experience on this topic??

I've seen this question raised on another forum and it got pretty heated and out of hand. We all have our opinions on what we'd do or what we think others should do.


I'm not voting in this pole. Way too many worms that could come out of this can.

It should be up to the individual and what they are used to.

For example, I wouldn't suggest someone start learning to ride while pregnant, but if someone is an experienced rider already and is used to it, I don't see what the problem is.

I used to ride my bicycle (in traffic) when I was pregnant. The doctor said that because my body was used to cycling, I could still cycle. Women who jog can continue to do so while pregnant. Women who ride horses can continue to do so while pregnant. Women who hike, drive cars, ride buses, etc.,
So why not ride a motorcycle? People get runover by cars and buses just by walking to the store or wherever.....are you going to stay home jsut because you're pregnant?

Like I said, it's a personal decision between the woman and her doctor and the father.

I don't see what's so bad about it, just take it easy. But if you are about to give BIRTH!? umm no.

My experience.

I consider myself to be a clear minded, analytical type of person.
I worked in engineering before my pregnancy.

When I was pregnant, the emotional changes that occured from all those hormones flooding my brain made me less like my usual self.
It's not something you have much control over.

Riding demands a kind of focus that an experienced rider might be able to maintain during pregnancy, but a newbie might not.

Why take that risk.
Pregnancy is way more thrilling than riding anyway.

I'm pretty much with "Blues" on this one. A fetus is at risk in any traumatic situation, but not every situation is traumatic. And as already mentioned, even the most mundane activity or environment can cause a terrible injury.

I would never, ever suggest anything to a pregnant woman regarding her activities. It's up to her to be informed of risks in her life and make appropriate decisions for herself.

At some point during the third trimester, it gets difficult to do all sorts of things simply because of the ever-growing mass. I hated driving the car in my ninth month, so I just didn't do it that much. I suppose I would have chosen to do the same if I were riding a motorcycle at the time.

As far as what to suggest to someone else, I guess the most that I would do would be to advise them to search themselves for the answer.

Women continue ride horseback while pregnant. I'd have to say that in many ways, horseback riding would seem to pose a greater risk than motorcycling.

So long as a woman's doctor is aware, and so long as she is mentally and physically able to ride, why not? Keep rides short and local.
