Blues, it's not laziness. Bonneville has a very narrow filler, it's just easier to see the gas level from directly overhead, i.e. seated on the bike. For my other bike it doesn't matter, except I got in the habit from the Bonneville.

BOT I always place the bike on the center stand and stand between the bike and the pump.

insert gas nozzle, fill until it shuts off, pull nozzle out a bit, fill a bit more, repeat untill its full, or close to it.

sorry, I guess that came out a little harsher then I meant.
dont the pumps in your area have the auto shut off when the gas gets to the end of the nozzle? Just take your time and you shouldnt have a problem (although a sport bike may be a bit different then my cruiser.
