Cool, thanks. I'm debating on whether I want to use grease on it or not. I bought some naval jelly today to apply to the rust spots once I get them cleaned up a bit. I'm also going to paint the area.

There is a punched hole on the bottom side of the bar, right in the middle of the grip tube. I'm also thinking of plugging it up so that dirt/rust doesn't continually fall through from the bar into the gap between the tube and bar.

Are there any side effects to closing that hole. What's it there for anyway?

Looking side the throttle tube, the galling area corresponds with the hole there in the pic, rather than that big rust spot towards the end of the bar. I think dirt and junk fell from the hold and was basically rubbed between the throttle and bars with each twist.

I don't know what that hole in your bar is for. It almost looks like a location hole for the switchgear housing but too close to the end of the bar, has the bar been cut down in the past? Whatever, I see no good reason for it or why you can't seal it up.

BTW, those locater holes for the switchgear don't have to be used. You can file off the nub in the switch and then mount the switches and lever perches at any angle you wish. I like mine to angle down more than standard, stock positions seem set-up incorrectly for me on most bikes.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:

The bars are the factory jiggers. So, not a clue what that hole is for. Ventilation for the gremlins that live in my bars??

Well, I got the rust wirebrushed sanded off. Naval jelly has been applied and cleaned as well. I've taped off the bar except for the rust and hole I'm going to cover. Now, where's my primer!

I debating, JB Weld or Silicone filling? Ehh, I think it'll be whatever I get ahold of first.

Off to the garage.

Oh, that hole isn't uised for anything. The locator holes for the housing are a little further up. I might seal off the original hole too if I get on a roll

----------------

edit: done

I didn't get on a roll, so screw the other hole :ermm: Uhh...no pun...intended...?? The JB Weld didn't like being too malleable in the cold garage so I just did the necessary patch and let it be. I put a piece of scotch tape to hold the gooey inside the hole while it cures. It'll minimize what I'll have to sand down too. I don't care of the plug is recessed, just that it plugs.

It's no pretty, but I don't know who said it would be. I'll take the tape off tomorrow or this weekend sometime after everything cures and dries. Then I'll give the edges of the fixes a nice fine sandpaper massage so the throttle has smoothness.

Impressive. It's neat watching the stuff you do to your bike.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Thanks lol

I got the patches cleaned up, pics in my blog. Came out ok I guess. I'm a little perturbed on my perch though. Since the clutch is upside down, that stupid lock nut that goes on the other end of the pivot bolt that holds the clutch in the perch, that locknut gets in the way. It always gets in the way .

Is there some kinda alternative I can use so I can get rid of the nut? My drastic measure it to drill the bolt and install a cotter pin. But, that bolt is a little small and the drilling would be pain.

Would Loctite be secure enough?

I can't see the locknut that's in the way really well, but would it be possible to carve a section out of the lever to have the locknut recess into? Then you could just grind the bolt short and you're good to go.

Can you put the bole through from the bottem instead of the top? Or does that cause the same problems?

I wouldn't just thread it through and put locktite on it, that never seems to hold.

Hi Sev

With this MC, the piece that the lock nut hits against is the little shroud that protects the rubber seal on the plunger of the brake MC. Thought about cutting that shround off, but I think the locknut would rub the rubber and tear it. So, I decided maybe best not to remove the shroud.

I have tried to reverse the bolt, but since it is the pivot bolt of the lever, it only goes in one way (large hole) and then the end threads the opposite perch to the nut.

I'll get a closeup shot in a few...

I don't feel very secure with the Loctite only. I know I'd forget to check

Well, since grinding some width off the clamps and perches I was able to clear that little bolt. I've got it mostly buttoned up, except for the lever I'm going to shorten again

Pics to follow in a blog up date later.
