How much oil to put in a honda vtr1000?

#1 Unread post by roberto_baggio7 »

hey guys, i want to change the oil on my honda vtr1000 firestorm (year 2000) and i would like to know:
1- which oil (brand/type) should i buy?
2- how much oil do i need to put in?
3- which filter should i buy?

i don't want to take it to the garage at the begining of every season because they charge me an arm and a leg! i know the tires and brakes are good, but what else do i have to do before the begining of the season?

1. whatever motorcycle specific brand you like, as long as it meets the required specs (see your manual)
2. this should be stamped on the engine case, right around the oil sight glass.
3. go to your local Honda dealer, ask for an oil filter for your bike.

Try Googleing your bikes model number. You might find the owners manual online as a pdf file.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Depends on where you live.

10W40 is usually a safe choice. Brand is basically irrelevant so long as it doesn't contain friction modifiers.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

the vtr takes 4.1 quarts of 10w/40 (recommended) dunno the type of filter, but your local honda dealer should have one in stock
