Back to the actual question at hand:
I agree with the "don't challenge the issue of never getting into a crash." It won't work and will probably insult her intelligence. Not to mention that it will only serve to keep the visual of accidents fresh in her mind.
Yes, you really do have to validate her concerns.
Any way you can get her to take the basic riders course, too? It might open up some cool new avenues into the activity to have her into it, too (don't worry, I'm sure she'll give you some alone riding time, from time to time, if that's ever an issue).

Go away. You seem to have forgotten that there are many women here on TMW. When you spew your garbage, you insult every one of us here.MotoF150 wrote:I was just trying to help you guys, I believe all men are good and any man has a bigger heart than any woman and a man with that big heart falls crazy and madly in love with a woman and that man loses control, and the woman takes advantage of ur goodness and weakness. All im saying is love ur wife, but never trust her and never let her take away ur self respect and ur freedom, you guys must think ur wife needs you more than you need her, you guys must demand respect from ur wife. I see so many married men that are miserable being married and they all tell me how lucky I am cause I have no wife. If you guys are miserable then do something about it, you have a right to be happy! Make yourself happy instead of making ur wife happy, her happiness is up to her! NOT YOU!
Go get a life somewhere else....and maybe get some therapy while you are at it.
MotoF150... I read what you say with amusement, but your pathetic spewing of tripe is really beyond the point of ignoring.
Where do you get off with these huge, global assumptions? On a board full of women who ride with or without a man? I know that not everyone can read ever post, but you would think you would read a FEW of the dozens of posts written by capable women riders who enjoy what they do.
As for the OP...
You are always going to have people say its a bad idea and say it to your wife. There are dozens of reasons people have bad feelings about motorcycles. You need to sit down and make sure you know what her actual worries are. We can guess and guess and guess, but she may not even be on the same page.
My grandmother is anti-motorcycle because her brother was killed on one. Never mind that this was a small bike on a carrabian island that is not even paved and no one thinks to wear safety gear or get formal training. This has made her feel that motorcycles are bad and nothing is going to change that.
Beyond validation you need to know why. Many people have preconcieved notions of what motorcycles are. Really, what sticks in your head? The fully geared person riding along peacefully, or the naked moron zooming in and out of traffic at mock eight?

You'll have to excuse his ramblings, the only experience he's had with women are with the type he has to pay for. Even then, he winds up paying double for their services... because he's such a skilled negotiator and all. Regular women can spot a twit like him from miles away and won't go near him.IcyHound wrote:MotoF150... It isn't WHAT you ride,
It's THAT you ride
The problem with MotoF150 is not him. Really, he's just nothing more than the poor special ed kid.
The problem is all the rest of us (me, included) who react to what he's doing. He's doing it because he is trying to get a pathetic rise from our reactions. He doesn't seem to have anything else.
Now, I have made previous requests to have him kicked off (I think someone else mentioned that he had been kicked off other forums for the same reason) but he's still here. I'm not sure why he's still here, since it's obvious he's not positively contributing to the community aspect of this forum.
The only other thing that can be done is to just ignore his cracks. Don't react to them. They only exist to bolster his warped ego (or lack thereof, not really sure). Maybe he'll get bored and go away on his own.
Kind of like, if you turn off the light, maybe the obnoxious moth will fly away (I already tried swatting it, but he's still a member of the forum).

That got a laugh out of me.
==================
Now, I have a different situation, I guess. I had the bike before I had the wife, but I've managed to keep it for the past ten years of marriage. Partly, I'm sure, is that the bike is one of the reasons she was interested in me -- she likes riding on the back of it, and thought it was a nice conversation piece in my living room. (at the time)
In the ensuing decade we've had some tight financial situations, and we've had kids, but beyond the periodic "Y'know, we could use the money..." she's really not pressured me to sell my bike. The last time it was on the road, in fact, it's because she got me motorcycle insurance for my birthday.
She freely admits that she worries about me when I ride, but still maintains that because she knows how much I love riding she won't ever pressure me to give it up. Actually, she surprised me this winter by mentioning on her own that she'd like to tour the country by bike, rather than by RV when we retire.
So my experience may not apply, but I think the keys were a) the pre-existing bike, b) her own like of riding, c)her love and respect for me and I'd like to think d) she knows I'd never intentionally do anything to deprive our four children of a father.

you know I went looking for an ignore user function but am unable to find it. Maybe something like that should be implemented here.willw wrote:The problem with MotoF150 is not him. Really, he's just nothing more than the poor special ed kid.

Obviously, Derogatory demenor towards all women + Hot chick = Instant loving
If by loving you mean having your balls squashed in a vice, by an angry person

Apparently he can't get it to fit properly...
