Complete rebuild of 1982 Yamaha Maxim...
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice....
as soon as i find my 2nd bike i would like to rebuild and chrome out my maxim. i have been working on cars for 25 years and can't imagine bikes being any different. i haven't begun to try and find all the parts needed (gaskets...), and am wondering if this will prove to be a problem with a 20+ y/o bike??? i'm also concerned that i will have to sync 4 carbs in the end. anyone have any history with these carbs? or aftermkt chrome?
thanks again-z

I wouldn't think you'd have too much trouble finding the parts you need. Lots of guys are fixing up their old UJMs lately. Carb sync'ing isn't really that difficult with the right tools, so, if the bike is in reasonably decent shape overall, go for it! See if you can find a service manual for it, first thing... it'll be well worth the cost.
Let me get this straight... it's one down and four up, right?

Zentech, you should have no problems with a rebuild of a Maxim, with auto experience and a manual you'll have no problem with it. As for getting parts like gaskets you should be able to come up with them, but as the years go by things are going to get harder to find. Im just now having problems finding new parts for my 77 but a 82 Maxim youll be good even in finding used parts for it. Have some fun with it.

thx. and actually a good friend of mine found one (a complete bike) lefted at a shop( had worked done then never came for bike) and he asked the owner what he wanted for the cover and got it for $30.00. which is a bargin because i bidded up to $68.00 on one in ebay once. now im tryin to get the whole bike for spare.
