I then slip the buff over my head and tuck my pony tail into the length of the buff. That way I have an instant helmet liner and my hair stays tangle free =). I have waist length hair and this works like a charm. I never get tangles.
I didn't use the same technique, but when my hair was down to my shoulderblades last year and I was riding, this is what I did too.

I considered getting my hair cut shorter so I could slip the buff over my head without hair hanging out the back but I have WAY too many "hair toys" to do that

A m-c instructor I had was going down a cruising type street and I'm told a car with a bunch of guys in it stopped behind him and started yelling and telling him how nice his "O Ring" was and trying to pick him up... thought he was a girl  until he turned to look at them and said something. He was a big guy too, about 6' :? go figure
Ya right, there are only 2 kinds of bikes: It's a Ninja... look that one's a Harley... oh there's a Ninja... Harley...Ninja...

Wow, MicheleZ. I'm not sure why I never thought of that before, but... awesome. I tied my hair up in a bandana today (I Love Lucy-doing-the-chores style) and it worked perfectly, head flip and all. Whee! :bliss: Thanks!

Glad to have helped :D . I would so love to just let my hair hang loose and blow in the wind when I ride - but I do not have the patience required to get all the danged knots out afterwards.

I just used a bandana (like you get at REI). Folded it in half diagonally to form a triangle. Took the two far corners and tied them up around my forehead (like a headband - think of the Rosie the Riviter pictures). Then I grabbed the other corner, pulled it up like a pouch around my hair and then tucked the corner under the knot. Worked like a charm.
