1st Time Rider ????

#1 Unread post by tuck23 »

I have been wanting to get into riding bikes for a long time now. I need some advice from some experienced riders. I'm looking to get involved in riding street bikes. I'm a big guy, 6'5 360 lb. Don't want to big of a bike since I'm just now learning to ride. Any suggestions on which bike may work out for me. Thanks guys, this is a nice site. TIA.

Warning :spam: ahead…. :roll2:

First of all..... :welcome:

Second, Have you checked out the Beginner's Guide? There are also stickies and the Learn To Ride A Motorcycle page which is now downloadable in PDF format (Created and maintained by Dragonhawk).

Third, I also recommend an MSF or other reputable safety course and reviewing your state’s (province’s/territory’s) DMV or DOT website for licensing information, guidelines and FAQ.

Fourth, Go to a variety of dealers and sit on all kinds of different motorcycles. Even if you don’t think you’d like the ride when you look at it. I was dead set on one riding style when I started and ended up buying a different type. You may surprise yourself as well.

Fifth, Good Luck, Have Fun and Stay Safe Out There!

I haven't been riding long enough to make any other kind of informed comment. So, I just copy and paste it from my Word File titled "TMW First Bike Answer"

I'll stop if yall find it annoying. Just figured it'd be nice to put all the answers in one post since most don't seem to search before posting or don't mention that they've searched.

I think it's a great way to nicely point newbies in the right direction. My personal opinion is that if someone is about to take on the responsibility of riding a street bike, then they should be able to research these things a bit more on their own, but it just doesn't happen. First post is usually... what bike should I get... or ... how much will insurance cost me... or ... how can I convince my parents to let me ride... or ... is a 1000cc crotch rocket really dangerous for a new rider. It gets old!

Keep doing what you're doing "Scoutmedic" - it's very helpful.

Oh, and welcome aboard "tuck23". Feel free to peruse the forums - there is lots of information and advice available covering just about any topic. Good luck finding the perfect bike.

Cheers,
Loonette
