:welcome5: to the community SV650-Beeter!

Sounds like you'll have a project on your hands. I personally don't recommend buying it if it's not running well, it's a lot to deal with when your starting off and you have to fix an unknown bike too. If it just needs a little work, then go for it.

BTW, you must mean a 1982 GS650, as they didn't make the SV650 till the end of the 90's. If it's a 1982 Suzuki you need to make sure it's electrics are ok, early 1980's Suzuki electrics were aweful. Ask if he has had many batteries in it and see how it runs at idle (if it's smooth or searching). If not, run away.

There are several members that have owned early 80's Suzuki's, like Gadget and myself (I owned and rebuilt a 1978 GS550) that can help you more. :D

I don't know much about the mechanics, so I'm sorry I can't help you there.

Being a new rider myself, I love your enthusiasm and determination.
That my friend, is the right attitude. Think positive.
Welcome and good luck on the SV650.

Well, make sure it is in safe and good functioning shape and you'll be ok. First bikes get dropped, and scratched and basically beat up from a fresh rider learning the rigors of riding. You definitely would be pissed if it was a brand new shiney $5k bike.

The important thing is you learn and get your skills. Welcome to the forum and good luck :)
