Im hoping to take the mfn soon, and start riding. My Brother has been riding since he was 21, now 17 years, he has had a few wreck, but non that he has caused, and they wernt to bad.(he is very responsible guy). But i know two people (one that died), and one who on the off chance had a wreck right in front of me. Both were new to riding a bike, and both broke the law, and both of the bikes were over 600cc. They were pretty dumb. But i know of far more people who have perished in a car accident, out of stupidity.

I get the "i know someone who blah blah" a lot. I also get notified of EVERY motorcycle accident in the area. Let them all be lessons of what you don't want to do. And let them be a reminder of what CAN happen, and that can help you keep a cool head out there.

thanks for all the replies.

it comes down to responsibility and safety practices. i think i am following both and will always. i have had the bike for a month with a permit and didnt even start it, i am not going to even do anything until MSF.. after completion i am going to spend this year driving around town and in parking lots until i am very comfortable in what i need to do. no need to impress anyone here.

Some people are so afraid of dying that they never live. I'm not one of them. But I do believe in managing risks so that the odds of living are in my favor.

I tell people that "we bikers" don't like to talk about those accidents because they're bad karma, and that person is now responsible if the rider they're blah-blahing to crashes. I make it seem like it's a unwritten rule or "those in the know"-type thing.

Since those people are never bikers themselves they usually shut-up...

I think that it is funny how no one ever tells you the bad things that can happen when your get your first car or car license....

I was talking to someone at work the other day about getting the bike and they started mentioning this risk stuff and I reply "yeah, and someone was killed this morning in a car by sliding off the road and hitting a pole", see it can happen in the cage and without the cage...
