question

#1 Unread post by koji52 »

I just have a question...might be a stupid one. But I'm learning on my friend's 883c sportster...i just ride up and down the street we live on (college student) for now and practice turning the bike around at the end of the street. Well last time I rode, I was circling around to run back down the street to my house and the motor shut off all of a sudden...i didn't hit the killswitch or anything...it just turned off. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them. It's a 2005 with a little over 2000 miles on it and I know my friend doesn't ride it hard.

Okay, this is obvious but... could you have been going slow enough while in gear that the engine just stalled? Stupid, I know, but that's the first thing that came to mind.

Yeah same thought here, what gear were you in and were you clutching at all? Basic question and I apologize for that, but you didn't give much info about what YOU were doing, only what the bike was doing.

Only time my sporty ever died was when I stalled it. Unless - had you just started it/was the choke in? If its cold and you don't use the choke it gets really unhappy.

did you perhaps forget to turn on the fuel line....? That could cause an unforeseen shut-off...
